Bruh, I said both of these guys (Prince, Michael and frankly, many others) literally idolized James brown and it just whizzes past twitter users. Like they really don't understand that James brown is THAT GUY.

This is so important for contextualizing Prince. For those who only see him as an album guy or "innovator", it's almost sacrilegious to imply he has a lineage and/or carried on a specific tradition up until his passing.

Yea hard to see him as “solo artist” in normal parlance. He’s from Duke, Miles, Sly, JB, George Clinton tree as ones who arrange, orchestrate & expand space for everything to breathe. There are planets moving around em but they can stop and redirect them in time, out of time

Yes! That website is a GOLDMINE! And I really like that this "Bandleader" discussion is happening. I (and many others) often approach Prince as "Recording Artist" and less as Bandleader and director, curating shows, paying homages and living and breathing the funk.
