Luminous leads retweetet

One of the cleverest horror scenes in Obsession contains almost no violence at all. It starts as a joke and ends with one of the film’s most unsettling revelations.
Desperate to undo the consequences of his wish, Bear calls One Wish Willow’s customer support hoping he can reverse it. The conversation is played for laughs at first, especially with writer-director Curry Barker making a surprise cameo as the deadpan representative who casually explains that wishes can’t be altered once they’re granted.
Then the scene takes a chilling turn.
Before ending the call, the representative asks Bear a simple question: “Would you like to talk to Nikki?” In the background, faint screams of terror can suddenly be heard. Nikki sounds trapped, panicked, and desperate. Bear immediately hangs up, but the damage is done.
What makes the moment so effective is that viewers don’t fully understand its significance until later. The scene quietly foreshadows Nikki’s horrifying fate under the influence of Bear’s wish, long before she accidentally reveals the truth while talking in her sleep. On a rewatch, the screams become one of the movie’s most important clues.
Behind the scenes, Barker uses a classic horror technique here: hiding a major revelation inside a seemingly comedic exchange. The customer support call lowers the audience’s guard, making the abrupt shift from absurdity to dread far more powerful. It’s a reminder that in Obsession, the scariest moments often arrive when the film appears to be joking.
A simple customer service call somehow becomes one of the movie’s darkest scenes. Human beings really did invent hold music and cosmic horror in the same timeline.
