Although it is heartbreaking that the journey has come to an end. It has been my personal honour to lead & support my teams. Their legacy arresting armed violent criminals & preventing murders lives on, often putting themselves in harms way. We owe them a debt of thanks.
Violent Crime Task Force@MPSViolentCrime

The #VCTF was formed in 2018 to tackle violence on London's streets. 1000s of arrests later, we have now moved from a dedicated taskforce to more local proactive teams, who now benefit from our experience. The end of the #VCTF but a new beginning for proactive policing.

"There aren’t many professions where from the minute you arrive at an incident, you are filmed and then critiqued by armchair commentators." Commissioner defends officers after a weekend where too many were injured or faced abuse, online and in person. news.met.police.uk/blog_posts/com…

Officers fearlessly ran into a burning building to rescue those trapped inside. They arrived in under five minutes and thanks to their quick action no one suffered serious injuries. Seven officers and six residents were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and have since been discharged. The fire is being treated as suspicious and a man has been arrested. Happy Christmas everyone, especially to those hard working police officers working today. I hope you all get to have some Turkey before or after your shifts. #MerryChristmas

“Good officers are having their careers suspended and legal processes hanging over their heads for up to ten years for just doing their jobs the way they have been trained. “I’m very grateful the @ukhomeoffice and @attorneygeneral are conducting a thorough review to find a more appropriate balance for accountability.” Read the Commissioner’s interview in @TheSun where he discusses the impact of accountability systems on officers across London. thesun.co.uk/news/24874712/…

We want Londoners to feel safe. Protests may only last a few hours, but officers continue to build cases against those in custody and launch investigations into those who come to our attention. Public order policing doesn’t end when demonstrators go home - know the facts 👇

🦺 | Once again, officers who could have been working in their community are with Just Stop Oil activists slow marching in the road. They will be making arrests quickly. We will provide updates on this thread throughout the day.

We have charged 34 Just Stop Oil activists following their slow march along the A41 yesterday. Officers arrested 115 activists which is the most we have made during their autumn campaign. The ongoing disruption means we continue to remove officers from their communities.

We've charged 34 activists who are appearing at courts across London today. Think of the resources spent policing Just Stop Oil, from planning all the way through to trial and potentially sentencing. Ultimately Londoners are picking up the bill. We're working swiftly to keep JSO's disruption to a minimum.

🦺 | This arrest number is likely to increase as Just Stop Oil activists are slow marching in the road at Waterloo Bridge. Officers arrived on scene within a minute of the report. Updates of their disruption today will be on this thread ⬇️

📰 | We made 61 arrests on the first day of protest activity by Just Stop Oil. We expect there to be further protests in the coming weeks. It's already a very busy time for the Met and this action will result in officers being taken out of communities. news.met.police.uk/news/more-than…

Yesterday in #DAGENHAM, East Area Violence Suppression Unit, #EAVSU, detained a 17 year old male after he tried to make off from them. Was it because he was wanted in connection with two robberies or because he had this firearm in his waistband???? 470EA @LocalCrimeBeats

@gmhales @routineactivity @MPSViolentCrime Stop & search is a tool, and like any tool, it needs to be used with care and skill. It's purpose is to confirm or allay an officer's suspicions, without having to resort to using a power of arrest. Theoretically, it is a less invasive power. The alternative is direct arrest.

@routineactivity @MPS_ChiefInsp @MPSViolentCrime I guess my point is that S&S comes in degrees of specificity, from intel-based proactive stops of named suspects to more area-based disruption/deterrence-focused activity (eg using s60), which is why generalised statements about whether #stopsearch 'works' aren't very helpful.

In the last week my teams have found four firearms, loaded & ready to fire. All through stop and search. The owners were violent criminals. This is not luck. It's about being in the right place, at the right time and doing the right thing.
