🎁 FREE GIFT: FULL ROSENSHINE CPD PACK!
To celebrate 50 consecutive weeks of ⚗️DistillED, I’ve put together something quite cool…
Over the past year, Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction has been one of the most requested topics from teachers and school leaders. So I’ve put together a complete, ready-to-run CPD pack to help schools explore and implement all 10 principles.
The download includes:
→ 10 CPD PowerPoints (ready for 30–45 min sessions)
→ 10 strategy checklists (practical classroom actions)
→ 10 planning templates (put principles into action )
→ Covers all 10 of Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction
Everything you need to run ten focused CPD sessions — one for each principle.
👉 REPOST and comment ROSENSHINE and I’ll DM you the link. Cheers!
⏰ Available until Sunday 22 March!

- Classroom phone bans reduced academic inequality: lower-performing students gained most, whilst high achievers showed minimal change.
- Classroom spot checks showed fewer disruptions, more engaged teachers, and fewer off-task behaviours.
- Interestingly, while students felt a slight increase in FOMO, this did not translate into poorer well-being or reduced motivation.
- Students who experienced phone bans in classrooms became significantly more supportive of such policies.

@dnleslie @Bruce_NextLevel Or indeed on pupils leading learning/less teacher led. What’s the point of having a subject qualified teacher if the kids can ‘discover’ it all themselves 🙄.
English

@Bruce_NextLevel One of many ideologically driven comments that have little to no evidence base.
Similar to ‘requires less teacher led and more student led’ and the requirement to ‘differentiate more’ despite no one being able to share how to do this

@clairelbills @MrsSmithMaths12 @TeacherTapp In my case I have taught secondary classes for a number of years now without a TA as the classes that landed on my TT didn’t warrant one based on needs of pupils elsewhere being higher. The last year I taught with a TA in class was pre Covid
English

@MrsSmithMaths12 @TeacherTapp Good point A yes be interesting to see that split too. I wonder why secondary wouldn’t benefit though? Is it related to streaming do you think? Teaching style?
English

Massively surprised by this - I wonder about number of years teaching vs answer. Lots of newer teachers won’t realise the difference having a skilled TA in class makes to wellbeing and ability to support all properly! @TeacherTapp

@Teachers4Perm And yet in some areas we can’t get supply for love nor money, let along in a subject you really need for. There are some councils (rural) that are struggling to fill vacancies.
English

We conducted a survey of over 346 supply teachers to find out how much work they’ve experienced since the start of the academic year, 2024.
- 🚨80% reported very little or NO supply work🚨
- Only 8% were offered fixed-term contracts* of a year or more
- Aberdeen, Angus, Edinburgh, and Glasgow saw over 30% reporting no supply work
- In some councils, over 60% of respondents had less than a month of supply work
Out of the respondents who reported 'No supply work', 84 (62.69%) indicated that their Local Authority has advertised for supply recruitment this year.
How are teachers supposed to pay bills if they don’t have any work available to earn a living?

@MrARobbins @cogscisci Managed to catch a few remotely yesterday (they were great) and grateful for the option to catch up with recordings. Would never manage to go in person due to distance.

Thanks to everyone who came to #cogscisci24 today. I hope you enjoyed it and found it useful @cogscisci 🙏
