Brad Pitt’s character in The Big Short is based on Ben Hockett, a former trader. Pitt spent time with him to understand his distrust of Wall Street and his decision to walk away from the system. This authenticity comes through in his restrained performance. On set, Pitt asked to avoid glorifying speculators. His character repeatedly reminds others that profiting from a crisis means millions will suffer, adding a strong moral weight to the film.
