@MajorGalah Exactly. Not to mention that from my understanding of Whalefall (granted the novel, not the film) the Whale itself isn't the antagonist. The antagonist is the environment, which just so happens to be its stomach. Versus Jaws where the Shark is an actively malicious antagonist.

Makos and great whites will often expend their energy striking the prey first then let it bleed out.

But sadly attacks due to hunger or territorial reasons do occur.
And yes they will eat people in some of these cases.

Mistaken identify is a very old theory that never had much basis and assumed sharks only hunted in murky water and had incredibly bad senses.
