@DrFrancisYoung The thing with Orval is that it improves greatly if you can manage to leave it to age (approx 18 months) in the bottle. (Just in time I worked out not to write c.18 - that would just have confused you, and suggested an even longer time)

@bunsenbernerbmd Hope the Bunsen family see this - my English Springer Henry had a very similar-sounding watery sac thing years ago. Surgery fixed it. Hope the same for the big guy.

Bunsen had a great night at the hospital. He remained bright and cheery, and is on pain meds. He is currently getting prepped for surgery and remains very strong going. The surgery is scheduled for 1 PM Mountain Time as he was bumped by a more dire surgery earlier. We are hopeful that whatever grace there is extra in the universe, a tiny bit of it is given to him. Again thank you all for your overwhelming kind words.

@bunsenbernerbmd Just wanted to say that my English Springer Henry had something very similar-sounding - a strange fluid-filled sac in his abdomen. And the good news was that surgery sorted it out. So here’s hoping for the big guy!

Hi all. So not the best news. What presented as bloat turned out to not be bloat. It had all the symptoms of bloat but as the vet team went through different diagnostic tests, each test came back negative. The ultrasound presented a fluid filled something in Bunsen’s abdomen - it was so large the initial X-ray mistook it for his stomach - and a false positive for bloat. The main vet surgeon who has worked in emergency for decades spoke to us personally and said (to paraphrase) It most likely isn’t an obstruction as the ultrasound of his stomach showed little fluid and his intestines showed no backed up fluid. They have no idea what the fluid sac is, and it isn’t presenting as cancer on ultrasound. In fact, in their words, it's extraordinary. So, our choices were exploratory surgery to find out what it is, or saying goodbye to Bunsen as whatever this thing is has gotten big enough that it’s killing him - pressing on his internal organs and shutting them down. So Bunsen is having surgery tomorrow. The surgical main vet wanted his best team fresh and at work to tackle it so they will keep him stable and make sure everything is ready as he is priority one tomorrow. If the unknown thing is something that can be removed, fixed, etc, they will do so. If not, sadly the suggestion is, well, this would be the end. Bunsen has always been one of a kind, I guess it’s ironic that he has a one of a kind thing. Our family is going in to see him tonight, and we will let everyone know tomorrow what happens. We see your comments and kind words - thank you so very very much.

@DrFrancisYoung And there was me thinking “The Two Chairmen” pub in Westminster was just a description of a wild meeting…

‘Chairman’ is one job title that just sounds so much more prestigious now than it did 300 years ago

@RachelStaunton “Too many tenors” is a fine example of the logical structure called a category error.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a choir in the UK who has too many tenors?!? Does such a thing exist?

One of my best friends married a man she met on Hinge. She had the typical dating app experience and went on lots of dates before finally finding her now husband. He downloaded the app, and she was the first woman he matched with. He never met any other women from the app. Imagine downloading a dating app and the first person you meet is the one. Hinge should sponsor him.

@NoContextBrits No, you’re all getting it wrong. It is “better than half price” - but for Sky, not the customer.

The great cellist Paul Tortelier b otd 1914. What a figure he was to us young cellists! Flamboyant, idealistic - and a great musician. Extraordinary to think that his master classes were shown on BBC2 TV at primetime - those were the days... “One must be a purist, not a puritan.”
