@golliharsclass What are you trying now that works? I love asking "how" and "why" questions to better understand my students' thinking and to figure out how to tailor my instruction. #NSTAchat

A5: FAs help us guide student learning by uncovering misconceptions during the learning- catching them before they become mistakes in learning that are harder to reverse. I love FA- but want to be more efficient and effective at it during 5th Math and science-any ideas? #NSTAChat

Twitter Chat: Read #4 in my S&C guest editorial. Formative assessment should NOT be graded. It is never fair to grade students on something they are still learning. Formative is formative, not summative! #NSTAChat

This question I have a strong philosophy on but want to ask the chat: Teachers often ask me, as a district leader, how do you take grades when you do so much formative assessment? What are your thoughts?@CTSKeeley #NSTAChat @caahayes

A5: I think FAs really help the Ss understand what they know/don't know. When Ss get a chance to revisit and revise their initial ideas/predictions/models, they are always amazed to see the evidence of their learning and growth! #NSTAchat

A3 Using an anchoring phenomena as formative assessment can be powerful tool. Most of our elementary curriculums have good phenomena . But using it in this way can be engaging and informative—Before during and after learning. #NSTAchat

A3: I hope you will read my guest editorial, Formative Assessment in the Science Classroom: What It Is &What It Is Not. It helps clear up some of the misunderstandings teacher have about formative assessment & is a great article to read & discuss with your colleagues! #NSTAChat

A3: I love using sentence frames to help my students share their thinking. •I predict..because I have seen •I learned that..because I saw.. •My evidence to support my claim is.. •I agree with you because •I disagree with you because #NSTAchat

A1: I used formative assessments in the classroom to get at what kids know and to check for understanding along the way. Great way to plan for the next day's lesson. #NSTAchat

A2: Throughout the lesson! I use form. assessments, like Qs, to understand what the Ss know at the beginning, then to see how they are making sense of the phenomenon during, and near the end to assess their learning. #NSTAchat
