@ZelenskyyUa "A father is all about protection." Then drafts fathers off the street and sends them to a front line with a real chance they never come home. The kids he's "protecting" become the fatherless ones.
English

A father is all about protection and safety. And today, this has taken on an even deeper meaning, because Ukrainian fathers are protecting not only their children, but also the very possibility of a safe future.
Being a dad in Ukraine today takes a special kind of courage. And a special kind of love. We thank all Ukrainian dads for their care and strength. All those who defend Ukraine and who do everything possible every day for their families and children. Those who teach, inspire, and support.
May every Ukrainian family have what we are fighting for: a peaceful and safe future.
Happy Father’s Day!

The World Cup will have other moments. Some things genuinely don't come around twice and the birth of your child is one of them, while there's always another match, another tournament, another career chapter. A few hours away from camp for that isn't "throwing it all away," it's having priorities in the right order.
English

🚨👶 Jérémy Doku could temporarily leave Belgium's World Cup camp to be present for the birth of his son, and the debate has exploded across Europe. 🇧🇪
French journalist France Pierron didn't hold back:
🗣️ Pierron: "Are you seriously telling me these players have sacrificed everything to come to the World Cup, and you're leaving just to cut an umbilical cord? 😳
You're lucky enough to play in a World Cup. It's an incredible privilege, and hundreds of footballers would do anything to be in your position. That opportunity might never come around again in your life.
And you're going to throw it all away just to attend your child's birth?
It's a moment where the father isn't really needed. He has a symbolic role. You hold her hand and take a photo. And then what?
You're going to miss 10 hours, experience an emotional high, and be exhausted afterwards. You can't miss a World Cup.
Some people may have gone into debt just to get to the World Cup, maybe sacrificed everything to be there, and you're leaving to cut an umbilical cord..." 😳
The reaction has completely split fans. Some believe family comes before everything, while others see the World Cup as an opportunity that may never come around again. 🌍
What would you do: stay with your national team or be there for your son's birth? 🤔

English

@RnaudBertrand So it was never about safety. It's about who gets to be a tech power and who stays a customer forever, right?
English

Eric Schmidt saying the quiet part out loud: "What I don't like about [China's AI] is that it's all open source which means it's largely uncontrolled and not controlled in any way by us."
He adds, "if that makes you feel any better," that only 2 or 3 countries can be independent AI powers.
In other words, it's all about hegemony: the ideal scenario is a world where AI is controlled by the US - and the fewer countries that can resist that, the better.

@RnaudBertrand AI is fine as long as the US controls it, and the rest of the world stays dependent.😂😂

@ZelenskyyUa Posts a strike count an hour ago and calls it "working for peace."
Posts a body count after retaliation.
Bombing your way to peace isn't a strategy, it's a contradiction in terms, but it's been your playbook for 2 years and counting

Just yesterday, Russian guided aerial bomb strikes on Zaporizhzhia killed 5 people and injured 26 others. In Poltava, tragically, 2 people were killed and 12 were injured as a result of the shelling, including 6 children. My condolences to their families and loved ones.
The Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Donetsk, Kirovohrad, and Rivne regions also came under attack. Our frontline and border communities are constantly targeted by drones. In total, this week alone, the Russians launched about 2,200 attack drones, more than 1,800 guided aerial bombs, and 87 missiles of various types against Ukraine.
It truly matters that, against the backdrop of these attacks, the G7 and European Council summits and the UDCG meeting delivered results and secured new contributions to strengthen our defense. I am grateful to our partners for their unity. It is now equally important to implement everything quickly, above all the delivery of air defense missiles, so that these new contributions provide real protection for lives from constant Russian strikes. Thank you to everyone who is helping.

@ZelenskyyUa Every war leader on earth runs the same script: grieve the dead in one breath, brag about your own strikes in the next, call it peace. Doesn't matter if it's Kyiv, Tel Aviv, or Washington, the language of "justified strength" is universal, and it never actually ends the war.

Last night, our long-range sanctions targeted the occupiers’ military logistics, oil industry, and air defense. All of this is a just response to Russia’s brutal attacks against our people. I thank the warriors of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, and the Special Operations Forces for their successful work at a distance of about 300 kilometers from the frontline.
Facilities on both sides of the Crimean Bridge were hit: maritime logistics used to transport oil in the Krasnodar region and an oil depot in temporarily occupied Kerch. In addition, military logistics facilities were successfully struck, along with four radar stations belonging to S-400 systems and two Pantsir systems.
I am grateful to all our warriors for their precision and professionalism. Russia understands only strength, and our long-range strength is certainly working for peace. Glory to Ukraine!

A true patriot stands for their country, not for someone else's. Zimbabwe is for Zimbabweans. We cannot fight their battles, we cannot live their realities, and we cannot make conclusions based on opinions that lack evidence. Only Zimbabwe will save Zimbabwe. The question Jacqueline is asking is not for us to answer it is for Zimbabweans to decide. What must happen now is not for South Africans to dictate, but for the people of Zimbabwe to define. That is their fight. That is their responsibility.

We’re now under a full fledged dictatorship. Zimbabweans what must happen now?

@VP @WhiteHouse @POTUS Vance: it's $300 billion, Gulf-funded, conditional. Trump: it's fake news.
Pick one, gentlemen
English

VP Vance on @POTUS’s commitment to long term peace:
“He’s thinking about this for my kids’ sake, for our grandkids’ sake, to ensure that you never have this regime with the ability to develop a nuclear weapon.”

@ZelenskyyUa Another day, another "effective strike" tweet from a man who banned his own country from negotiating peace, while his men get conscripted off the street. We've seen this movie before, leaders who profit from war never run out of reasons to keep fighting it.
English

Our long-range sanctions have reached Russia’s Tyumen region – another oil-processing facility, over 2,000 kilometers from our state border. An effective strike.
The job was carried out by the new, upgraded FP drones that can now reach targets at distances of 3,000 kilometers. I am grateful to the Fire Point engineers.
Our mid-range strikes against military targets in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine are also ongoing and having a real impact on Russian military logistics.

Ai wena mnqundu, "Extort a licensing cut" that's a funny way to describe a law that applies equally to MTN, Vodacom, every telecom operating in SA, not just Starlink.
Farai Mazhindu@FaraiMazhindu
South African people want Starlink. The South African government is blocking Starlink to extort a licensing cut.
English

Other countries block Starlink over licensing, spectrum, security. Elon shrugs and moves on.
South Africa blocks it over one BEE clause and suddenly it's "white genocide," courts be damned.
It's not about connectivity. It's personal. He left during apartheid's end and never made peace with that.
English

Millions across Africa are benefiting from Starlink, but South Africa is blocking it with its race-based laws.
• 13.3 million South Africans remain offline
• Only 17.4% of households have fixed internet at home
• In rural areas, that falls to just 2.7%
Starlink is already operating in more than 22 African countries.
• Many African markets are recording Starlink speeds above 100 Mbps
• Tens of thousands of African homes and businesses are already connected
• Rural clinics are using Starlink for remote medical consultations
• Zimbabwe: 67,057 Starlink subscribers (17x growth in 16 months). Starlink delivers 5–9x faster speeds than local providers across the region
• Botswana: Average median speed of 106 Mbps
• Eswatini: Average median speed of 121 Mbps
• Lesotho: Starlink now used in 25+ police stations and disaster response teams
South African farmers and rural communities are asking the government to approve Starlink. In many remote areas, people still have no reliable internet and must travel long distances just to get connected.
By blocking Starlink, the government is hurting the same people it is supposed to help.
