Good morning. It’s 8:00 am. I’m sitting in my car. It’s cold outside and raining really hard. A very good Palestinian friend who I worked with for years asked me to take his wife to the American embassy in Jerusalem for an interview to get a visa to visit the States. My friend’s father and brother live in Philadelphia. They want to visit them with their baby. They live in the West Bank - the Palestinian occupied territories and they are not legally allowed to cross a check point to enter Israel. I was going to sneak her him my car. She was going to remove her hijab. But late last night they were successful in getting her a permit from the israeli army. So I picked her up at the checkpoint and now I am waiting for her to complete her interview and I will drive her back to the checkpoint. Crazy life.

This decision by the Home Office is very concerning. As Home Secretary I worked up proposals to list Turkey as a safe country : a member of the Council of Europe, a NATO ally and a Candidate country for EU accession. The government should re-think this decision.

Humanitarian aid to Gaza NOW protected by the IDF!!!!! Since a new deal between Israel and Hamas will include increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza, I am once again making my proposal to Israel (and passing it on to the policy makers in Israel): I have written this before and I will write it again and again. More than 2 million Palestinians in Gaza will remain our neighbors even after the end of the war. There is already a vacuum of governmental authority in most of the territory. The humanitarian crisis is enormous. The people of Gaza need food, clean water, medical equipment and medicine, tents, blankets, warm clothing - and they need it urgently. Hamas confiscates a significant part of the aid entering Gaza. Israel should deliver aid to Gaza from the north, center, and south of Gaza under Israeli military escort to ensure that the aid reaches the people who need it and that it is not confiscated by Hamas. It is not only the right thing to do, it also serves Israeli interests vis-a-vis the world. Humanitarian aid to the Gazans has nothing to do with the situation of the hostages. Withholding humanitarian aid to Gaza will not improve the situation of the Israeli hostages. The threat of stopping aid will not positively influence Hamas - it can directly harm the conditions of the Israeli abductees. So let's do the right thing now regarding aid to Gaza - let it in, increase the number of trucks, have Israeli military convoys protecting the trucks and get it to the people who need it the most.

Bullshit. It was a choice. No modern professional military HAS to bomb indiscriminately with dumb bombs and random barrages. No modern professional military HAS to murder civilians or level whole areas of civilian housing. Its a choice. And the IDF deliberately chose war crimes because it regards all the Palestinians as a) guilty and b) subhumans or even, in the words of Defence Minister Gallant, animals.
