Ignoring refraction due to varying air density (causing objects below the horizon to be visible above it), the horizon is a hard line, not a gradually fading gradient. This would not exist without curvature.

@Marcello804 @Argen_1816 You don't get a horizon when you are above a flat plane. What appears as a hard line horizon is caused by curvature, not by visibility. Otherwise, one would be able to observe the Manhattan skyline from the West coast of Ireland using a powerful telescope. Why not go do that?
