@DJRTistic DFC were so dope. The Flint scene - DFC, Breed, Dayton Family, Ghetto E, Jake The Flake, Raw Deal, Mentally Disturbed, Top Authority etc - was so diverse. In the 90’s it was WAY more popping than Detroit.

So I watched a full episode of Rap City from 1995 on YouTube, and I was in shock at how much music I didn’t know or remember! It starts with DFC “Cops get peeled” & Dis n Dat “Party.” It was a LOTTTTA underground and Regional music in that era before 98-99.
OldSchoolGemini@BrownBastard90

Before rap City was mainly them showcasing underground artists from 1989 to about 1999 the peak came after they made it rap City the basement and that 99 to 2005 run was the best run they had y'all just be sitting up here talking trying to discredit people but never have the facts right

My theory is that once upon a long long time ago there were dangerous animals here but the NZ men ate them all. New Zealand men are not scared of anything or anyone.

Kanye’s ‘College Dropout’ AND ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ both changed how hiphop & pop songs were designed, so they’re definitely classics. Jay’s ‘The Blueprint’ actually was that for how people from that point sequenced and presented albums - that’s what made it classic

@IAmSteveHarvey People want you to do things for them, not out of reciprocal respect, but because they think you’re inferior to them.

@OsheaJacksonJr Final Fight would translate to a better film than Street Fighter, and Alan could easily play Mike Haggar. It’s in the same Street Fighter universe so there’s cross overs.

@chrisluxonmp We are 6 months, minimum, away from a return to ‘normal’ fuel supply. We are a small country WAY down the list of priority customers to overseas fuel suppliers. Your obligation to all of us is transparency. Not word-salad agenda laden rhetoric.

Global conflict is pushing up fuel prices, and I know some Kiwis may be worried about supply or whether restrictions could be needed. Here’s what you need to know. Our first priority in managing the impact of global fuel disruption is ensuring New Zealand has the fuel we need to protect jobs, livelihoods and the wider economy. Right now, there’s no need for fuel restrictions. New Zealand has sufficient supply, and we’re planning ahead to stay that way. We’ve updated our National Fuel Plan to make sure New Zealand is well positioned to respond to any disruption, whatever the global environment brings. Higher prices are putting pressure on households, so we’re providing targeted, temporary support to low and middle-income families to help with the cost of fuel. We’ve targeted that support to ensure we help working families under pressure, without repeating the mistakes of Covid, where massive spending drove up debt and pushed inflation to a 32-year high. We cannot control global oil markets or international conflicts, but sticking to a careful economic plan is how we can get through this global shock and protect New Zealand’s future.

@DJRTistic but what's the baseline tho? What's the criteria? because 2001 DMX and Outkast charted more than all those people. And Nelly was charting singles from TWO albums same time.

One day soon, I’m gonna do a year by year poll for the Hip Hop MVP of every year, basing it off of the Complex “Best rapper alive, every year since 1979.” Such as….who’s the MVP of 2001? Jay-Z, Nas, Ludacris, or Jadakiss? Or 2005….Jeezy, 50 Cent, Game, or Kanye?

Little bit of constructive feedback yesterday from producers I pitched to. Already re-wrote 2 of the 5 screenplays per their notes…. General consensus is that there’s no money for creativity in NZ anymore.
