Just after I left intensive care I was moved to a burns and plastics ward. Had my own room. Used to stare out the window looking at the QE hospital being built. One day I noticed a TV in my room and put it on. What did I see? The #LondonMarathon . Lying there I said I’ll do that next year. Had no prosthetics, hadn’t ever seen one but told myself I’ll do it. At headley court I was told if I ran it I could train and my skin would rub off, or not train and it’d come off by time I’ve finished. It’d also take around 17hrs with breaks. I said I’ll crack on thanks. Took 6.20 with no training. Finished with no skin. It is what it is but it changed my life! I now know I’ve got it. You can achieve amazing things when you put your precious feelings to one side and focus on what you want. Good luck to everyone running this weekend!
