(And don't forget our state and local leaders! So much of what happens in our communities is set by those folks. Blow their phones up too!)

Set aside just 10 minutes this week to call your reps and Senators (whether they're Dems or not) and tell em what they need to hear. The Capitol Switchboard will connect you directly with them if you give your zipcode: (202) 224-3121 (3/3)

Even though we're about to (finally) get more COVID relief, I'm worried all Dems in Congress don't get the urgency of this moment. We need big action on voting rights, climate change, student debt, etc., but our tweets won't push them the way our calls could. (1/3)

Shocking scenes in Washington, D.C. The outcome of this democratic election must be respected.

The key question now is whether congressional Democrats facing purple or red electorates learned the lesson of 2010: You win reelection by delivering real benefits to people fast, not by shrinking and slowing bills that would improve lives in a performance of moderation.

Governments' international law duties to refugees, asylum-seekers and immigrants in their care or custody still apply in a pandemic: States must prevent, treat and control COVID-19 by providing adequate health services/supplies and releasing individuals from detention.
Just Security@just_security

In informal camps or formal detention, refugees&migrants in gov't custody are extremely vulnerable in a pandemic. States have an obligation to keep them safe. @oonahathaway, @MarknotSteve, @PrestonJordanL1 continue our #COVID19InternationalLaw series justsecurity.org/73661/covid-19…

I'm excited to point out int. refugee law's importance for governments' COVID-19 responses with @oonahathaway and @PrestonJordanL1. Our first piece on this topic tackles the principle of non-refoulement.
Just Security@just_security

#Refugees have rights to international protection – central among them, the right not to be returned to harm. How does this principle of #nonrefoulement apply during a pandemic? Our #COVID19InternationalLaw series continues. justsecurity.org/73593/covid-19…

Governments can't sacrifice civil and political rights as they try to get the pandemic under control. I'm proud to have worked on this piece to make that clear.
Just Security@just_security

As they battle #COVID19, gov'ts balance public health with civil, political rights. How can States uphold free speech, assembly, elections, & fair trails in a pandemic? @oonahathaway & coauthors answer in our #COVID19InternationalLaw series. justsecurity.org/73520/covid-19…

It's helpful to take a step back from the day-to-day coverage of the pandemic and reflect on governments' human rights law duties, which are too often overlooked. The next section of our series tackles a few of the most fundamental rights, beginning with the right to life.
Just Security@just_security

The right to life is fundamental in human rights law - but its precise contours are difficult to define. What does this right mean in a pandemic, and what steps are governments obligated to take to guarantee the right to life? #COVID19InternationalLaw justsecurity.org/73426/covid-19…
