Context matters. After losing a relative under the age of 5 to a stray bullet from a gun shot in the air, I am not sympathetic to such dangerous childish acts. It's not standing with Afriforum, it's standing with common sense that bullets shot in the air come down somewhere. And I say this as someone who has voted EFF in every election I have voted for except the first one I voted in. I have voted for EFF even though it is not the party I have membership in. I have defended the EFF publicly where it made sense to and I have criticised them where it made sense to. Julius Malema should not have done that. As a leader or as an individual. If those bullets had hit someone when they came down it would not have been an Afriforum member, it would have been one of us.

Malema could do something interesting here. Imagine he doesn't challenge the ruling and actually goes to jail. No riots. No incendiary speeches. He just does the likely 2- 3 years he would serve, of the 5 year sentence. He could actually rehabilitate his tainted image. He would become the prosecuted hero ... Martyr if you will. But, words are easier than action. Would ... Or can... Malema do jail time for his convictions? Would he do the time for the course?
