What I’m most excited about is selling more PSYCHEDELIC products on Amazon, our website and getting into more retail stores!

@RM_Transit Well could say that approving a project without having a cost estimate is also not the responsible thing to do

@Matt_Warren Obviously. But we don't actually have a cost, and it isn't the case that the "twin the existing tracks" option is 90% as good or 20% the cost.

Meanwhile Canada can't get it's act together and the most common argument appears to be "Wah wah Toronto sucks at building stuff, California sucks at building stuff give up on core national infrastructure as the rest of the world leaps ahead of us"

Today Vietnam started construction on it's first high speed railway line and it is not the flagship North South Express Railway. Instead it is a 120km long line from Hanoi to the tourist Ha Long Bay area. The line will use German/EU technology (Siemens) and is 120km away from...

The old automation stack was: force everything into a database, write SQL, then bolt logic on top. The new stack might just be: - put the truth in text - let agents read it - let scripts act on it A wiki is becoming a coordination layer for a business.

Isolation is where bad decisions live. Every founder knows this. Very few actually do anything about it.

what are some alternatives to restricting people's freedom to move? - remove gov. subsidies from post secondary - assume there is some loss and account for it - create environment for other countries to do the subsidizing and focus on brain gain strategies - make it explicitly part of the application (eg: military service) - make education more efficient and cost less

Understand he is not stating canada should charge people to leave the country. He is saying that if canada pays for someone's education, there should be rules around people not being able to leave canada with the skills the government paid them to get. Like a rule that requires a student to pay back their education fees if they don't stay in canada to work. It's not ridiculous to expect something out of a person we as tax payers invested in.

I'm trying to combine Karpathy's personal AI-curated wiki idea with an agentic toolset. One layer keeps the facts current. Another reorganizes them. Another looks for business moves. Once all your state is in markdown, this starts feeling surprisingly real.

The crazy part isn't any one model curve. It's the curves compounding: - better models - better harnesses - better quantization - better research loops - better tooling Each one speeds up the others. That's why it's getting hard to keep up.

The day I almost shut down Psychedelic Water, we were out of cash, morale was shot, and I was completely burned out trying to do everything myself. Our marketing budget was zero. Competitors were outspending us 100-to-1. I was manually tracking their prices, drafting social posts, and writing sales emails, and I was doing all of it badly. Out of desperation one weekend, I built a few simple AI agents. Nothing magical. Just small scripts that monitored competitor pricing, pulled content ideas from old posts, and wrote rough outreach drafts. They didn’t 10x the business. They just took the repetitive, soul-crushing work off my plate long enough for me to focus on the few decisions that could actually keep the company alive. The most powerful tools aren’t the ones that promise explosive growth. They’re the ones that keep you in the game long enough to find your next move. Efficiency matters. Endurance matters more.

Avi Lewis: "We have a very clear plan to cut grocery prices by 30-40% for Canadians at a cost to the federal government ... We'd subsidize it. It costs $350m to launch and $300m a year, which is one-half of 1% of the current defence budget."

Cloud AI will probably always be smarter than what you can run at home. But smarter is not the same as worth it. If local gets you 80% of the value at tiny cost and tiny latency, the frontier premium starts looking a lot less inevitable.

Canada doesn’t lack the ability to build high speed rail, it lacks the ability to build it economically. Chinese firms have solved that problem. Domestically they build for $17–21 million per km. I’d be curious what that looks like in a Canadian context.

The interesting local-LLM question isn't "when do they beat frontier models?" It's "when are they good enough?" If a Mac mini can generate solid code with low latency and near-zero marginal cost, a lot of cloud usage stops being obviously worth it.

@build_canada The full oil product supply chain should be considered part of our national security. Makes sense to be in control of it domestically I like the idea of pre-approving or zoning for refinery expansion.

"We have lots of oil. Why are gas prices so high?" It's true that oil prices operate on a global market, but there's more to it. Contrary to popular belief, USMCA (unlike NAFTA) does not explicitly forbid 🇨🇦 from setting a lower domestic oil price. Instead, ~85% of 🇨🇦 oil exports are crude oil. Canada lacks the pipelines and refining capabilities to make it usable domestically. So, we sell it to 🇺🇸 refineries and buy back the finished product.
Steven Chase@stevenchase

Carney asked Tuesday why gas prices have soared to $2 per litre when Canada produces lots of oil domestically. In other words, why do gas prices in Canada reflect global price of oil? Doesn't really answer but stock response I suppose would be that if we set price controls on oil, it would damage investment in the oil patch.

People are still debating models like the model is the product. The model matters. But the harness around it now matters just as much: - routing - memory - tools - evaluation - orchestration We're entering an era where the wrapper around intelligence is becoming its own moat.

It is crazy how good Apple Silicon is. I have an M2 Macbook Pro from 4 years ago. It isn't slow. The battery lasts forever. The fan never turns on. I can't imagine upgrading for another 3-5 years.
