David to Goliath:
“You come to me with a sword and with a spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied . . . that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear.” 1 Samuel 17:45–47
The weapons of our warfare are not of this world.

@mattyglesias No. “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous.”
Proverbs 13:22

But conversely, while there is nothing wrong with building a great business and becoming extraordinarily wealthy there *is* something wrong with hoarding that wealthy for personal consumption or to pass to your kids.

I think it’s interesting that going back at least as far as Nozick and Wilt Chamberlain the go-to examples for this argument are always celebrity entertainers when obviously the vast majority of extreme wealth is either successful founders, successful investors, or their heirs.

I'm seeing huge improvement physically, and hope to be back to part time work soon as I'm able, but the financial need is still very dire. Every bit of money from this fundraiser goes toward bills & necessities. Please consider giving or sharing. Thanks!

@MNPDNashville @kent_police Don’t let this man pay for another pint in Nashville as long as he lives
English

An international THANK YOU at MNPD HQ today as Chief Drake & Officer Peter Kinsey expressed their sincere gratitude to @kent_police Sgt. Taylor Johanson. The British officer had just arrived in Nashville when he saw Kinsey in a fight & in trouble at I-440 & West End.

@aaron_renn Can you identify an American city in any region that has been able to make meaningful infrastructure investments since NEPA? Adding roundabouts to a exburb carved out of cornfields doesn’t count.
English

The South's failure to address infrastructure is it's Achilles heel. During their mega-growth phase, older cities like NYC saw stupendous levels of investment into infrastructure.
Aaron M. Renn 🇺🇸@aaron_renn
Such a huge difference between Texas (Austin excepted) and the South proper in terms of infrastructure investment. Huge difference between DFW/Houston and Atlanta, which may be one reason Atlanta's growth rate declined a lot.

Yesterday in church we heard testimony from a couple who lost everything in #helene. As soon as they could be rescued they went to their daughter’s house to check on her. The house was gone. The son-in-law’s body was later found in Tennessee. The daughter was never found. They took in their granddaughter who somehow survived. @biltmore church bought them a new fully furnished @claytonhomes home! Thank you to all who gave to #828strong. We are generous because Christ was generous to us in the gospel.

@chazmolder Does this logic apply to Senators as well? Like … do you think Tennessee would be better represented by having one Senator instead of two?

@longhunter09 @AppalachianPro1 Gorgeous (slight preference for Rockfish Gap though!)

@AppalachianPro1 My favorite spot on the route between my home in EKY and my homeplace in the Shenandoah. Absolutely beautiful country through there.

@RolandGunnTN STL is more aligned with Chicago than KC, Nashville is arguably more aligned with ATL (via Chattanooga) than Memphis. To the degree Memphis and Nashville are aligned, Memphis is the inferior.

@kansandoge @48hghtchrdnck Yes, they were very far from their homes … in Germany. What are the mental gymnastics like for you? “The Virginians crushed my Germans in 1776 (yay, Independence!) and then the Virginians lost to my Germans in 1864 (no Independence for you!). So odd.
English

@48hghtchrdnck I’m not going to bemoan my ancestors who served in the blue. They fought valiantly and ended up winning, far from their homes. You lot are allowed to be proud of your ancestors, I will be proud of mine.
English

@kansandoge @AmericanPolack Lol not even Grant thought the Union had better soldiers or generals 🙄
English

@EcciusMaximus First, that wasn’t American soil, it was a failed Spanish colony that America conquered ~250 years later. Second, the first Christian services there were held a year earlier in 1564 by Huguenots at Fort Caroline (they were murdered by these Catholics in the Matanzas Massacres).

The capital district should go right here

@AdamParkhomenko The Commonwealth literally argued that they should have the election *even if it was unconstitutional* and then sort it out later. So that’s what they did!
