@OpenAI got cleared by the Commerce Department to launch GPT-5.6 publicly on Thursday. Three tiers: Sol (flagship, $5/$30 per million tokens), Terra (mid), Luna (cheap). The feds held it back for weeks over cybersecurity and biology safety. Same thing happened with @AnthropicAI 's Fable 5 in June. I keep noticing this pattern: frontier model releases are now a federal negotiation before they are a product decision. The voluntary oversight framework was supposed to be enough. It wasn't, twice now. Sol reportedly hits new SOTA on Terminal-Bench. @cerebras fast inference support is coming. Limited preview is live, broader access in the coming days.
