The one case described was dubious in that regard and, if real, too far from the standard to be any kind of valid example or control. No strange variables, please. Or just count primates.

@M_Tsunset @PicturesFoIder P.S. Many wild cats have these white/light ear patches. Smaller cats, like servals, actually do have predators, so their ear flashes may indeed do double duty as eyespots. But tigers have no natural predators, so that is just incorrect.

That's so cubs following their mother know when to get quiet and hide. When the white patches disappear, they know mom has sensed danger.
