@antonia_mdprjct If I'm on the hook for LDs for being late, then the Owner should be on the hook for Compensable Delays when their team holds up the critical path. Magnolia Courthouse renovation -held up for 10 weeks @ $2,000/wk. waiting on Arch. dec.

People often ask me about contractor incentives and liquidated damages. This past week, I was hanging out with a few dev managers at big shops (each with at least a couple of decades of experience). Not a single one of us has ever paid an early completion bonus. And it’s not because we’re against putting them in a contract. It’s because none of us has ever had a contractor finish a project ahead of time. People are more likely to value what they have vs what they can potentially earn. So, a backcharge of $10k feels worse than how good a $10k bonus feels. This is why liquidated damages are more effective than an early completion bonus. This makes even more sense when people realize the LDs aren’t even meant to make the project owner whole for lost revenue, they're supposed to incentivize the GC. Pro tip for GCs: please, please, please make sure your LDs are reasonably capped. (Can’t tell you how poorly it goes when they’re not).

🔊 Meet with your excavating contractor before the first scoop hits the dirt. Review all safety requirements upfront—and then verify them daily. My condolences to the family of the worker we lost here in Conroe. Let’s make sure this is the last one. #TrenchSafety

A 1-foot notch is not a bench. It's a vertical wall with a different name. As leaders, we have to stop 'eyeballing' safety and start measuring it. If the soil isn't sloped, shored, or shielded, the job doesn't start. Period.

Trench Accident kills one. This tragedy occurred this past Saturday, April 11, 2026, on South Loop 336 East here in Conroe. It is a sobering reminder that "guessing" on soil stability is a fatal mistake.

@colin_beazley How about a safety squeeze with Magnum. Scrap Iron Garner did that several times with the Astros. He probably learned it from Chuck Tanner. This team reminds me of the 79 Buccos, but their a little too sloppy in the field.

Don Kelly said the Pirates didn't have Konnor Griffin steal in the 10th because the pitcher was quick to the plate (slide step), they wanted to keep the bat in Reynolds' and Mangum's hands, and only a ball hit directly to 2B would double up Griffin and Mangum. They clocked the pitcher Ribalta around 1.2 sec to the plate.
