Note than I'm not necessarily arguing to abolish the public school system. You are. I'm arguing that if I don't get to hold the spenders of my tax dollars accountable, *then* we should abolish the system.

The children with involved parents will be home schooled or privately schooled. The children with uninvolved parenrd get no effective education. Which, by your own premise, *was going to be the outcome even if you had taxed me til I bled."

I'm seeing more and more people trying to deflect blame from the public school system by pointing out that parents really need to be involved to guarantee good educational outcomes. That is true. It being true makes school taxes more offensive, not less.

There is some truth to this. It is also true that if the entire goddamn school system can't teach your child to read, consider the remote, wild possibility that I, who am paying for it at gunpoint, still have the right to be pissed at the public school system.
Vonn@itsthewealth4me

Your kid not being able to read, is on you I'm very concerned seeing people say it's the schools fault, and they don't have time to make sure their kid can read You're an adult, imagine if you couldn't read how hard everyday would be.. don't do that to your kid

I love it that Jack Reacher can walk into any thrift store, anytime, and come out with a perfect-fit pair of jeans and a nondescript, dark t-shirt. Just once, I want to see Reacher walking around in a pair of jorts and a "Mitchell Family Reunion 2017" t-shirt in neon green.

@LadyDemosthenes As long as you deliver the seminar in your sultry teacher voice it should solve all the problems. ;)

I swear, we need a seminar on this. Ladies and gentlemen, if you’re in a sexless marriage are any of these things still present: 1 - do you and your spouse still hold hands? 2 - when you walk by each other, do you reach out and pat a butt, or go in for a quick hug? 3 - do you sit and giggle with each over little things? 4 - do you seek their opinion on things that happened during the day? 5 - do you listen with interest when they talk about their day? 6 - do either of you show appreciation for the other person? 7 - do you talk about more than just the kids, the house, the bills? 8 - do you make time during the week to do something together? If these things are missing, something is seriously wrong with the relationship and NO it is not the lack of sex. Sex disappeared BECAUSE these things are missing, not the other way around. Intimacy, foreplay, that starts at the breakfast table. You connect in all these other ways and that’s what builds the desire to connect physically. Take away the mental and emotionally intimacy and yes your sex life will dry up. Here ends my TED Talk.

It is fascinating to interact personally with so many people pretending that the pandemic went down entirely differently than it actually did. Like, bro, we were all there. We know you know. You have to know we know you know.
Conor Friedersdorf@conor64

A question for everyone: survey data suggests that by the end of the Covid-19 emergency trust in public health institutions had decreased significantly. If you are among the people who reacted that way, why specifically? I'm hoping for long, diverse, individualized answers.

@conor64 Important to note that this didn't just erode the credibility of the medical establishment but of vaccines as a technology. Thousands, maybe tens of thousands of preventable deaths will result and the blood will be on the hands of the liars in medicine and government.

@conor64 1 - vaccine keeps you from getting COVID! 2 - well, no, but vaccine keeps it from spreading! 3 - well, no, but it keeps you from experiencing it as badly as you could (whew we finally came up with a totally unfalsifiable claim)

@conor64 Were you in a coma? Public health “experts” forbid public gatherings to stop the spread. Then they said riots for George Floyd are OK. Complete clown show. Partisan nonsense. Credibility suicide.

@raymondgstanley I'll grant that there are probably more alternatives to bartenders than plumbers, but that's not the same thing as saying meeting that tier of human need is unimportant.

@raymondgstanley Disagree with qualifiers. Plumbers or something very like them is necessary to meet a lower Maslow tier. That does not mean that many of the most important things that make us human aren't on the higher tiers.

Plumbers are 100 times more valuable to society than bartenders are. Hope this clears things up for you.
