Millburn Geography & Modern Studies

Another great senior Geography trip to UHI! Higher and Advanced H pupils got a taste of student life on the Beechwood Campus and carried out a range of geographical investigations with the help of the lecturers and lab technicians. Excellent prep for H and AH projects!

Last week, all S1 classes participated in @GeoBus_StA workshops: pupils mined chocolate chips from a cookie while assessing their mines' costs, revenue, and environmental impact (and taste!). ⛏️🍪

It’s been an element-tastic couple of days at @MillburnAcademy, with S1 learning all about rock-powered smart phones, having a go at cookie mining and playing some Elements for Technology Happy Families.

Just in time for starting our S2 volcanoes topic!

1.2 used our Departmental Augmented Reality Sandbox to learn more about showing topography on OS maps today. The power of being able to make it rain with a hand wobble!

Just 1 week ago Modern Studies pupils visited the parliament in Edinburgh- was a fantastic experience for all involved!

National 5 Modern Studies held a "Social Science Fair" last week. Pupils created posters and presented their findings to the class.

5D and 5E showed true geographical grit during a very wet and cold day trip to Cairngorm yesterday. Despite the conditions they gathered some great info about their case studies and their good spirits made them a real pleasure to have out with us.

The Advanced Higher Geographers had another great day for field work. During a survey of the Allt Mor between Loch Ashie and the River Ness they practised soils and stream surveying techniques and pebble analysis collecting loads of data for later analysis.

S3 pupils are creating stop motion animations to illustrate the formation of coastal features.

Welcome back Geographers! Our S1 pupils explored different themes of Geography over the summer and created some fantastic cover pages for their jotters.

Senior Geography pupils enjoying a fantastic morning @UHI_Inverness campus. They tried out GIS software, used their Geo skills in a mock forensic investigation and toured the impressive facilities available within the building.

Thanks to all S1s who came along to help refresh our displays at lunchtime! We can't wait to share our Tundra animals with the whole school. 🐧🐻‍❄️⛄️

This week Higher Geography had a visit from @CNPARangers Polly who works in Cairngorms National Park. Thanks so much for enhancing our understanding of current issues and land-use conflicts within the park.

Jelly Baby Geography! Today we used sweets to build population structures and explore reasons for changing birth and death rates.
