OK, I've stayed quiet long enough. I'm starting my journey really soon as a newly reinvented Vtuber. I hope to have you all along for this wild, mecha-filled ride.

@MokuMekaPilotVT @pcgamer I get all that. But love it or hate it, windows let's us play games and run all kinds of other softs too. Creative and social and I guess I really don't know what the limitations of steam os might be.

@Stretchedwiener @pcgamer If you were to part out a similar PC that's just a smidge faster, it's about $980 without peripherals or an OS. The big advantages for the Steam Machine is it works and it has its own OS installed on it. It's right on the mark for cheap gaming prebuilt PCs.

The NES in 1985 was $200 or $622 today. But this is a full PC comp right? Just "Valve/Steam" branded? I'm not sure to tell the truth. $1000 for a robust gaming PC isn't terrrribbbbble, but there are better deals to be had. This could and would be cheaper if we weren't getting beat up by RAM and hard drive price increases.

The biggest advantages the Steam Machine has: - It just works. - It's very small. - It beats other device pricing by about $120 or more. - Future driver updates will likely make it run even better.

For most of us computer geeks the steam machine specs & pricing are underwhelming, but for your average person I still think it's well priced. At bare minimum you get a PC that can run almost every game on steam, guaranteed hardware support, & a simple plug and play experience.

@MokuMekaPilotVT @SamHulick @Vesmic87 Are we really going overboard with building, finding the right time to buy the parts and thinking everything over when building a small form factor pc, just for 100 bucks? 🤔

It's wild to me that people don't understand why someone would want the Steam Machine. IMO: - No Windows driver BS - Couch gaming FTW - Steam games get steeply discounted & more frequently than console games - Future integrations with Deck & Frame

I'm a sculptor. I sculpt toys. Digitally, using mainly ZBrush. But I like Plasticity too. And Blender. Toys like this. A collab between 100% Soft and Pusheen.

I think the bigger problem at play is: A) Nvidia and Microsoft fucking over the entire PC markets kneecapped this thing significantly in power and hardware. B) I don't know if this was meant to keep up with high spec PCs, but it likely needs a lot of optimization work.
Play4Index@Play4Index

The Steam Machine is showing disappointing performance in demanding games: 🛑 Cyberpunk 2077 (1440p, Medium, RT) – 28 FPS 🛑 Black Myth: Wukong (1440p, Very High) – 20 FPS 🛑 Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (Ultra) – 21 FPS 🔹 Key takeaway: the Steam Machine’s performance does not match its price, a regular PC costing $1,049 or more would deliver significantly better results. #Steam

Guy who’s watched 1 mecha: Evangelion’s pretty good! Guy who’s watched 10 mecha: um Evangelion is overrated derivative slop, you should watch MY favorite mecha instead because its so much better than Evangelion Guy who’s watched 100 mecha; Evangelion’s pretty good!

@Vesmic87 I doubt you could put together a gaming PC with similar specs for less than this. Also, Windows is hot garbage.

Shout out to Gamers Nexus for showing the DIY build of a comparable machine (slightly better performance than Steam Machine) $979 vs $1050. Buy an xbox controller on sale for $50 vs $99 for Steam controller... You save about $120.

@hagooomi You can do a lot of things with it as it's just a tiny PC - You can make it a dedicated game playing PC, hack it with Windows and do pure stream capture and broadcast, etc. It's decently powerful enough to do either or, but not both simultaneously.
