I don’t claim to know the right punishment. But the wildest part of this story is that she can get her license back. Mary Lau’s defense claimed she hit 70+ mph because she mixed up the gas & the brake. If you’re too old to tell the difference there, you’re too old to be driving.

A driver who killed a family of four, including two babies, at a San Francisco bus stop was sentenced to probation. Mary Fong Lau (seen here walking through the courthouse today) dodged jail and prison time. Lau, 80, was speeding when her Mercedes SUV plowed into a West Portal bus stop in 2024, investigators said. A family was waiting to catch the bus for a trip to the zoo. The crash killed Diego Cardoso de Oliveira, his wife, Matilde Pinto, and their two babies. This story is genuinely outrageous. An 80 year old woman, driving three times the speed limit, struck and killed a family of four. The judge in the case doesn't even want her to lose her license.
