Looking back on this School Year what is one thing you would not change?

Today marks one year since police killed George Floyd. We lift his name alongside so many other lives unjustly taken—and alongside so many families still mourning. We continue to demand justice and affirm that Black lives matter today and always. learningforjustice.org/magazine/fall-…

And this is one for teachers: if you hear even a passing discriminatory comment, no matter how vague, PLEASE shut down the lesson immediately and tackle it head on. It's the best lesson those kids will learn all day.

What if Black teachers were recognized more for their content knowledge, pedagogical abilities, and ability to teach instead of their ability to discipline and manage Black students' behavior?

@missrfletcher On a side note- my first year we did “Farmer’s insurance jingle” and It didn’t go well. 🤦🏽‍♀️We quickly realized it as a class that it wasn’t working but that remains an inside joke with students from my first year. 🤓

@missrfletcher I currently use a 5,4,3,2,1 countdown + wait time with my middle school kids and it works better with deliberate and intentional practice. A bell/ a chime is on my list for next year.

Smartest thing I heard from a supt recently: As part of reopening planning, arrange a simulated school day (or even 1/2 day) for key stakeholders (supt, bd, union pres, etc) to "attend" school under draft plan. From bus to class to bathroom, walk in their shoes b4 deciding.
