Al-Tāj Ibn al-Subkī (d. 771) responds to an objection that the Prophet’s companions did not know formal logic, attesting that the likes of Abū Bakr and ʿUmar fully comprehended the content of al-Ghazzālī’s (d. 505) logic introduction to his al-Mustaṣfā much better than him.

al-'Alim wa al-Muta'alim is Abu Muqatil’s question and answers from Abu Hanifa and he is deemed reliable by Hanafi’s. And even if Kashmiri said Abu Muti compiled fiqh al akbar (the fiqh al absat version), he (Kashmiri) said that Abu Muti is truthful in what he narrated from Abu Hanifa. As for the mention of different manuscripts I believe Kashmiri was only referring to fiqh al akbar and not the other books? And yes fiqh al akbar will have different manuscripts as it has different riwayas (Abu Muti Balkhi fiqh al absat version, the Hammad version, etc) As for discrepancies of manuscripts within the same riwaya, i’ve never looked into that much.

Imām ʿAbd al-Qāhir al-Baghdādī stated: that the theologians (mutakallimīn) among our companions hold that he, peace and blessings be upon him, is alive after his death, and that he receives glad tidings of the acts of obedience of his community, as stated in al-Durr al-Munaẓẓam of the ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar al-Haytamī.

Al-Khadir (AS) being alive seems to be the dominant opinion amongst the scholars, especially the Sufis. The earliest sources mentioning him being alive that I have found are the works of Ibn Abi Dunya (RA) who passed away 281 Hijri. Has anyone found an earlier source?

@MagnusTawheed @MuhammadAriesto That doesn’t make him a liar. Esp if there are other weak narrators in the chain. Even if he was weak in hadith it doesn’t make him a liar. Hence his transmission of his father’s statements and opinions are fine and validated by the Hanafi madhab

Waleykam salaam I don’t think any non Hanafi early muhaqqiq’s. However it means nothing outside of the Hanafi madhab. As no Imams of Jarh wa tadil authenticated the codifiers of the Hanbali madhab such as Abu Bakr al-Khallal and his companion Ghulam al-Khallal. The authentication by a madhab suffices even if no ahl al hadith followed suit.
