#Congrats to @loriglaze, the now permanent director of Planetary Science. She leads NASA’s largest science division by $s. I am personally very excited to call her my colleague and look forward to seeing her impact grow even more - she has been great already! @NASASolarSystem

@GeoffdBarrett Yes, we’re fine. Rough storm. Zero visibilty blizzard, 70 mph winds. 4 to 6 foot drifts at my house. Beautiful and sunny today.

Today is a good day. It feels like spring outside, I’ve finished two draft deliverables, and I had the opportunity to recommend *two* brilliant colleagues for positions #seniorprofessionalgoals #payitforward

We’ve selected 9 teams to study pieces of the Moon that were gathered & sealed on the surface during the Apollo era. Stored untouched for ~50 years, I’m excited the samples will be opened for the 1st time to be studied by a new generation of scientists go.nasa.gov/2TAmbAT 1/2

Re Europa Clipper on a commercial rocket, not SLS, that's not news. NASA said the same thing in its budget request last year. Congress nevertheless directed that it be launched on SLS. And last year NASA said launch in 2025. This year it's 2023, also as required by law.

The budget request covers JWST, but zeroes out @NASAWFIRST and #STEM engagement, among other puts and takes.

Let's keep finding ways to make "failure" a synonym for "failure is just data" and "still working on it, because I am determined and this thing is worth it!"

Feed your brain with space facts this #NationalCerealDay. 🥣 "Cereal" is derived from Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and grain. Ceres is also the name of the dwarf planet explored by @NASA_Dawn. go.nasa.gov/2C8Q2Gl

MAVEN Mission to Mars@MAVEN2Mars·
#MAVEN today performed an aerobraking maneuver (0.2 m/s ∆V) to decrease the periapsis (lowest) altitude by 1.2 km. MAVEN’s periapsis altitude is now 125.5 km and the apoapsis (highest) altitude is 5,400 km. The density of #Mars' atmosphere at periapsis is 3.4 kg/km³.
