@fahdahmed987 The idea is try stop a counter attack through the centre or at least slow down a counter attack by forcing the opponent to go wide. This will give time for the rest of the players to recover back to their positions.

One of the biggest tactical questions that I have for Germany heading into the World Cup is on how their 3-1 rest defence copes during transitions.
Structurally, the players do well to occupy the three central channels while the defensive midfielder screens the backline and maintains good positions. However, I'm looking at the profiles of certain players (Pavlovic and Kimmich) and wondering whether they are suited to the roles from a defensive perspective.
Two main questions:
- Can Kimmich defend large space in transition against a winger who has top level 1v1 quality?
- Does Pavlovic have the out-of-possession intelligence to consistently and correctly decide between when to counter-press and retreat while operating as a lone pivot?
As for Schlotterbeck and Tah, I think the positions are fine considering their experience and suitability.
Structurally, the 3-1 choice from Nagelsmann is riskier. I'd personally drop a player like Nmecha or Stiller to play beside Pavlovic and keep a 3-2. And this is because, in my opinion, Germany require more protection in transitions when having Pavlovic in midfield and Kimmich as a wide center-back in possession phases. The pair have limitations defensively, so, it makes sense for me to give more support.
I get that there will be an attacking trade-off by further solidifying the rest defence. But I think that the overall positives outweigh the negatives. Don't think that's the case with Nagelsmann's choice. I could be proven wrong here.
Overall, I think that this is going to be a very important aspect of Germany's performances during the World Cup. Fine margins can have significant consequences. And when you're taking more risk during defensive transitions, it leaves a clear opportunity for oppositions to target.

Kenya is a crime scene and a failed state. Let’s hope they didn’t find Kshs 850M but only took 250M to the office. Imagine how much public money is looted at Treasury, State House, KRA, NIS, county finance departments, Governors’ offices, ministries and state corporations, leave alone parliament.
Looting, murder, drug trafficking and money laundering everywhere!

The problem is when a kikuyu defends Rigathi. At least we now know where the line is drawn.

Hon Duale misspoke when he said Kenyans will not be consulted on the Ebola quarantine centres. Of course they will be and have been consulted. What Duale meant was that "we won't have public participation" on where the Ebola quarantine centres will be established due to the rapidly evolving nature of the disease.
