⚠️ BLACK ICE ALERT ⚠️ Black ice can be hard to spot and often looks just like wet pavement on cold mornings or nights. Unfortunately, it can cause your vehicle to lose traction without warning. When temperatures drop below freezing, especially in the early morning and evening hours! Please slow down and use extra caution while driving: 🧊Slow down (more than you think you need to) 🧊 Leave extra space between you and the vehicle ahead (8–10 seconds) 🧊 Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns 🧊 If you start to slide, ease off the gas, steer gently in the direction you want to go, and stay calm A little extra patience can go a long way in keeping everyone safe on the road. Please drive carefully.#NLRPD

Please be safe on your commute home this evening. If you are traveling as inclement winter weather begins to impact your area, please follow our Winter Driving Tips. Once you arrive at your destination, limit any additional travel and stay off the roads unless it is truly an emergency. As snow and ice begin to accumulate, roads, bridges, and overpasses may quickly become slick or impassable as temperatures drop. Please remember STAY HOME - STAY SAFE - STAY WARM! #NLRPD Cares!

PLEASE LIMIT TRAVEL AND STAY OFF THE ROADS…UNLESS IT IS A TRUE EMERGENCY. The safest place to be is at home. As you prepare, please remember: ❄️ Charge your phones and have backup batteries ready ❄️ Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those living alone ❄️ Bring pets indoors ❄️ Never use grills, generators, or propane heaters indoors ❄️ Have flashlights ready in case of power outages ❄️ Monitor updates from the National Weather Service at weather.gov and trusted local sources. Additional reminders: ❄️ The days following winter weather can be the most challenging, especially if power is lost ❄️ Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate ❄️ Drip your water - do not let faucets run continuously Please remember the North Little Rock Police Department and North Little Rock Fire Department are here for you in case of an emergency.
