For healthcare professionals that don’t have much experience with managing dementia, it is more than just “a memory problem”. I was blown away by how lovely everyone was and how well she was managed when she burnt herself but there were a few observations I had as the NOK 1/

Make sure you cherish days with your parents. There may come a day they no longer remember it’s your birthday. It’s still a day they know deep down, it’s a day they want to celebrate with you but it will be a day you wish you could celebrate like you used to… @alzheimerssoc

I’ve noticed a steep rise in “student-led” conferences in my area - excellent to see students enthused and involved. Some, though, straddle the line between a conference and a teaching day. How many have university support? Is there a risk of student conference fatigue?

The UK @ternfellow EDcorridor study is out! Key points 1. 1in5 are treated in ED escalation areas (eg corridors) 2. 10-25% of EDs have no available resus cubicle 3. The problem/solution is flow. More patients waiting for beds in ED than in corridors. doi.org/10.1136/emerme…

Around 1 in 5 patients in UK A&Es are being subjected to so-called 'corridor care', according to a new study by @ternfellow. Here's our President Dr Ian Higginson telling @LBC this morning why this practice has become so widespread in our hospitals - and how it can be fixed.

Thrilled to be named Runner Up in the category of Outstanding Contribution to Teaching at the UHL Educator Awards 2025. A nice way to be recognised for the hard work my colleagues and I put in and a great way to cap off my time there. #MedEd #TeamED

As a carer, you deserve to look after yourself, too. But we know that can sometimes be easier said than done when you’re balancing a caring role with the demands of daily life. There are no easy answers, but it’s important to try and take time for yourself, even if it’s in small ways – like making the most of your breaks at work or listening to music on your daily commute. It can also help to lean on friends and family, whether that’s asking them to step in so you can take a break, or chatting to someone who understands what you’re going through and can really listen. And if you’re struggling, speak to your GP. Carers can often reach a crisis point before they realise that they’ve been struggling for a while in their role. But you don’t need to reach breaking point to ask for help, like counselling or extra support services. Getting help and support before you think you need it is one way to prepare for the future. Some services have waiting lists, so it may be reassuring to know that you have a plan in place. And if you need support or advice, we’re here for you too. Just give our Dementia Support Line a call on 0333 150 3456.

What a privilege to do a “Sims in MedEd” workshop for @LeMedSchool students yesterday. It came as no surprise their innovative, curious and critical thinking grasped key concepts straight away. The future of #MedEd in Leicester is definitely a bright one!
