March 24, 2023: A day we will never forget. This is especially true for those in Rolling Fork, Silver City, Black Hawk, Vaiden, Winona, Amory, and surrounding communities. In a matter of minutes, lives were changed forever. Although progress has been made, these communities continue to feel the effects of that horrific day, and the road to recovery is still ongoing for many. That night was a powerful reminder of how quickly severe weather can turn life-threatening — especially after dark — and why preparation and awareness are so critical. Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone who was affected, and with those who lost loved ones during this tragic tornado outbreak. We honor their memory today. #mswx

Louis Leo “Lou” Holtz, legendary college football coach, Hall of Famer, bestselling author, and one of America’s most influential motivational voices, has passed away at the age of 89 in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by family. Born January 6, 1937, in Follansbee, West Virginia, Holtz rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most respected figures in college athletics. Over a remarkable five‑decade career, he led college programs at William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina.  He transformed every team he inherited and captured the 1988 National Championship with the Fighting Irish. Holtz was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Beth, with whom he shared a life grounded in faith, devotion, and service.   Holtz is remembered for his enduring values of faith, family, service, and an unwavering belief in the potential of others. His influence extended far beyond the football field through the Holtz Charitable Foundation and the many players, colleagues, and communities shaped by his leadership. He is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, and two great‑grandchildren. Funeral arrangements, including a Mass of Christian Burial at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame, will be announced as details are finalized. The Holtz Family

ACTIVE SEVERE WEATHER PATTERN: An active severe weather pattern is expected to unfold across parts of the central United States over the next several days. While the highest risks remain west and north of Mississippi for now, this overall setup is something we will be monitoring closely. *Today (March 4): A Slight Risk (Level 2/5) of severe storms exists from Texas into the Mid-Mississippi Valley. Storms in this corridor could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes. *Thursday (March 5): Storm chances continue across the Southern Plains, mainly across West Texas and Oklahoma. The primary threats will be hail and strong wind gusts. *Friday (March 6): The severe weather threat increases across the Southern and Central Plains, where an Enhanced Risk (Level 3/5) is forecast across parts of Oklahoma and Kansas. Storms here could become more intense with large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes possible. *Saturday: There is currently no organized severe weather risk outlined for Mississippi. However, with an active pattern in place, a low-end threat cannot be completely ruled out, though confidence in anything significant remains low at this time. *Looking Ahead: We are watching next Wednesday for the potential of severe weather across Mississippi and the Mid-South as the overall pattern shifts east.
