This Sunday, remember to turn your clocks back one hour. It's also the perfect time to ensure your home and loved ones stay safe by changing the batteries in your smoke alarms and testing them to ensure they're working correctly! @cityofnorthvan #fallback #nvcfd

When your smoke alarm goes off, check for fire immediately. If there’s a fire, alert everyone, follow your escape plan, and never open a hot door. Once outside, call 911 and wait for the fire department. Prevent false alarms by regularly changing batteries. @cityofnorthvan

This month, we've responded to 3 fires caused by items stored on stoves. Stoves are not storage areas- Even when turned off, accidents can happen if a burner is accidentally turned on. Let's work together to prevent avoidable fires and keep our community safe!

If your barbecue has been sitting for an extended time check the inside and outside of the grill before first use. Ensure the barbecue and burners have no grease buildup or leftover food. If you smell gas while cooking, move away from the grill and call 9-1-1. @cityofnorthvan
