@nyuniversity you disabled our Gmail accounts with no warning. Please let us back up photos. I have photos of my late families as far back as 2016 and they have invaluable sentiments. Please give us ways to back up/transfer documents out of the google drive

In recognition of Trans Awareness Week, we honor the contributions of some of the #NYUAlumni who have shaped history and continue to inspire through their work and advocacy. From Janet Mock (GSAS ’06), the first to publish a memoir about the experiences of transitioning as a young person, first trans woman of color to write and direct a TV show, and first trans creator signed to develop content for a major media outlet; to Chris Mosier (STEINHARDT ’11), the first known transgender athlete to qualify for a men’s US national team, a five-time member of Team USA in duathlon and triathlon, and who was named an All American Duathlete in 2016, we are proud to celebrate their lives and experiences. A year after graduating from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Chang W. Lee (TSOA ’93) landed an internship at The New York Times, where his fast-paced reporting earned him the nickname ‘Tornado.’ “I’d storm around the city covering stories and taking photos,” says Lee, who was hired full-time soon after and became a staff photographer in 1994. Lee's journey to The New York Times began in South Korea, where he worked multiple jobs while studying English before transferring to NYU Tisch. “I didn’t want to live like I did then—I wanted to do something I loved for the rest of my life,” he says. Lee’s passion and dedication have resulted in two Pulitzer Prizes, for coverage of the September 11 attacks in New York City and for chronicling the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan during the protracted conflicts there. Currently, Lee focuses his photojournalism on people affected by rapidly changing environmental circumstances and social changes in Asia. Learn more about how NYU Tisch helped shape Lee’s career path, what he is most proud of in his large body of work, and more: bit.ly/48TApAW

After beginning her studies at Drexel and then Cornell, Joyce Zohar (TANDON ’61) found herself among the first women admitted to NYU’s College of Engineering. She funded her education with a successful three-month stint answering questions about atomic energy on the popular 1950s game show, The $64,000 Question. “I didn’t think of myself as a pioneer, just somebody who is a very curious person and wanted to know how things worked. That was the impetus,” says Zohar on her decision to study and pursue a career in engineering at a time when women were largely excluded from the field. Read how Joyce’s persistence opened doors for future generations—and why she believes a little determination can go a long way in making history: bit.ly/3AwfBCE
