ALS has gradually taken away Kenneth’s ability to speak. Through Neuralink’s VOICE clinical trial, he’s exploring how a brain-computer interface designed to translate thought to speech could help restore autonomy in his daily life. Watch to learn more:

We’re building neural interfaces to restore natural and intuitive interactions with the digital and physical worlds for those who are paralyzed.
Synapticure@synapticure

ALS took @Telepath_8 s arm mobility. With his @neuralink device, he regained a level of independence he thought he'd lost forever. His BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) connects his brain to a robotic arm that allows him to gesture, microwave food, and grab a cup of water again.

ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that gradually and relentlessly takes away bodily functions, such as the ability to speak. With Neuralink, we aim to restore the voices of those who have lost them.
Synapticure@synapticure

Meet Brad @ALScyborg, the third person in the world to receive a @neuralink brain implant. Brad lost his voice to ALS. Neuralink has given that back, and with it, the ability to reconnect with his loved ones.

Jake could only type with one finger after ALS took away most of his arm and hand mobility. With Neuralink, he’s exploring how to type by imagining moving all ten of his fingers again.
Synapticure@synapticure

Jake @PairedWith_P7 is an ALS patient and @neuralink clinical trial participant, helping develop new ways to type for others that have lost mobility in their arms. He’s in the process of writing a book about his story – using just his thoughts.

We recently hosted a discussion with @synapticure, where Brad, Jake, and Nick shared their experiences living with ALS and using their Neuralink devices as participants in our clinical trials.
Synapticure@synapticure

Recently, we hosted a webinar with @neuralink , and interviewed three ALS patients actively participating in Neuralink clinical trials. @ALScyborg @PairedWith_P7 @Telepath_8 walk us through some common misconceptions people have around BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) technology.

We believe that building a performant, high-bandwidth brain-computer interface requires placing electrodes by neurons of interest. We designed our implant with thin, flexible electrode threads to do this as safely as possible.
Rockynohands@RockyNoHands

How does the @neuralink implant connect to the brain? Tiny threads smaller than a human hair get inserted into your brain by a surgical robot. The idea is that the small and flexible threads minimize trauma and allow the brain to move naturally. After injury paralyzed him from the neck down, @RockyNoHands tested many assistive technologies to reconnect with the world. He re-learned how to play video games with a mouth-operated controller and is now a pro gamer with multiple Guinness World Records and a significant following. We invited Rocky to Neuralink to share his story, learn about our technology, and discuss the possibilities of brain interfaces for paralysis and other unmet medical needs.

As the first person to use a Neuralink device to control a robotic arm with his thoughts, Alex has been paving the way for building brain-computer interfaces that restore autonomy in both the digital and physical worlds 🦾 See more in this video with Alex and @BarrowNeuro
BarrowNeurological@BarrowNeuro

Alex Conley, who has a spinal cord injury, was the 2nd patient to undergo neurosurgery at Barrow to receive @Neuralink's N1 Implant as part of the PRIME Study. Now, also enrolled in CONVOY, Alex is the 1st to use the brain-computer interface (BCI) device to control a robotic arm.

🇬🇧 We’re excited to announce our first participant in the UK! Paul, who is paralyzed due to motor neuron disease, received his Neuralink implant at @uclh earlier this month and was able to control a computer with his thoughts just hours after surgery.
