Hear me out. Shrek was originally a self-aware commentary on the cliché tropes in fantasy, but nowadays being self-aware and making fun of clichés is a trope in and of itself. So what if this movie is gonna be a commentary on that and the more cartoony artstyle plays into that?

You’ve also gotta remember that summer is JUST starting and most good movies don’t release in a more wide fashion until then. Most good movies from Q1 and even Q2 in a lot of years either only release during festival windows or theatrically in their home countries.
