Activist: "Cattle farming is incredibly wasteful." Farmer: "Is it? List the inputs." Activist: "What?" Farmer: "For my farm. What goes in?" Activist: "Feed, water, land..." Farmer: "Rain, grass that grows for free, and land that won't grow anything else. Where's the waste?" Activist: "But the resources..." Farmer: "Are solar energy and rainfall. Both happen whether there's a cow here or not." Activist: "You're oversimplifying." Farmer: "I'm being accurate. Sunlight hits grass. Grass grows. Cow eats grass. Cow becomes beef. Which step wastes resources?" Activist: "The land could grow crops." Farmer: "This land? 30-degree slope, clay soil, 45 inches of rain? Show me the crop."

The EU is set to spend €800 billion on war as public services crumble. That money should be invested in tackling housing, healthcare, and the cost of living As the EU lurches closer to militarisation, Ireland must stand firm in defending our neutrality. Peace & diplomacy first

🧀🧈🥛 Is dairy good for weight loss and metabolic health? This is controversial, and this post won't make me popular everywhere. The evidence has changed my mind over the years here, and I hope that what I have to say can be helpful to you. Like on other topics I've discussed recently, it turns out that there's not one simple answer here. Is dairy good for losing excess body fat and improving health? It depends. Analyzing dairy Let's analyze common dairy foods using our @JoinHava satiety scoring based on protein percentages, fiber content, energy density, and hedonic properties. Using our @JoinHava satiety scoring algorithm, we rank the predicted satiety effects of various foods from 0 to 100. Foods scoring 0 make you want to eat a lot and gain weight. Foods scoring 100 make you want to eat very little and lose weight. Foods scoring 50 are average. On average, for the day, you may want to try to score around here or a bit higher in order to get a good body composition and stay healthy. The list Looking at common dairy foods, we see that they span the whole range from low to high satiety per calorie. Cheesecake 3 Butter 10 Ice cream 12 Cream cheese 14 Heavy cream 20 Sugary yogurt (e.g. Yoplait) 30 Full-fat cheddar cheese 35 Brie cheese 40 Full-fat milk 52 Low-fat cheese 68 Full-fat Greek yogurt 68 Full-fat cottage cheese 70 Skim milk 78 Low-fat cottage cheese 81 Whey protein shake 86 Non-fat Greek yogurt 90 Note that all these scores are predicted rankings of common foods from 0 to 100. Also, note we're talking about satiety per calorie. Higher-protein foods tend to score higher, as you probably expected. What's more controversial and won't make me many friends, lower-fat dairy tends to score higher, all other things being equal. This may surprise some. Clearly, butter can be very satiating, but at the cost of very many calories – the satiety per calorie is low. Note, though, that this is the score for pure butter, e.g. if you're eating it straight or putting lots of it in your coffee. If you use modest amounts of butter when cooking nutritious foods, the overall score can still be average or high. What do you think about this? What's your favorite dairy food? Leave a comment below, and I'll answer many. @DrEenfeldt @JoinHava Edamame beans are very high in oxalates and lectins. Edamame contains antinutrients. Unfortunately, they reduce the body's ability to absorb essential nutrients. Also, it includes intensifiers. As a result, they can inhibit iodine assimilation and affect thyroid function.

What has the highest #satiety out of these four foods: Sirloin steak, eggs, bacon, or edamame beans? 🥩🥚🥓🫘 When I asked recently, most people guessed the 🥩steak... and that's correct, according to our @JoinHava satiety score! 💪 However, people failed badly at guessing the second highest, almost a tie with the steak, and a very cheap source of protein... 🫘Edamame beans! 🥈 Don't fear the small amount of carbs in these beans; they have a very high satiety per calorie as they have a lot of quality protein and fiber, as well as a very low energy density. 🥚Eggs come in 🥉rd place, but they are, of course, great, versatile, and (still) great value for money, with a high protein percentage. Off the prize pedestal, we find the 🥓bacon with a still-decent 49 score. Don't fear bacon either, it's tasty, and the protein percent is still relatively high, though not quite as high as the top-scoring foods here. Are you curious about the satiety of any other food? @DrEenfeldt There are so many other factors to consider: the pollution of oceans, the grains they fed the chicken, the origin of the meat... not even considering how our bodies and needs differ from one person to another. How can this all be reduced to an algorithm?

What has the highest #satiety per calorie out of these four proteins: Shrimp, chicken breast, ribeye or bacon? 🍤🥩🐔🥓 When we asked the other day, most people correctly identified the LOWEST score (bacon) but missed on the highest one. First, these foods all have a balanced or high @JoinHava satiety score; none are low. They can all be good choices. Most people chose ribeye as the most satiating food when asked, which is understandable but incorrect. One ribeye likely does give more satiety than a chicken breast or a few shrimp... but the ribeye also has a lot of calories. Percentage-wise, it's lower in protein and has a higher energy density, compared to the chicken or the shrimp. In other words, you'd have to eat a mountain of shrimp to get the same calories as in one ribeye steak. You'd likely stop eating before that. What does this mean? Well, if you enjoy ribeye feel free to keep doing that, it's a fine meal, and it is also scoring relatively high. Higher than most foods. However, if you want to get really lean or rapidly reverse type 2 diabetes, ribeye may not be the most effective choice. Bacon even less so. According to our @JoinHava satiety algorithm, the high score is an almost even race between shrimp and chicken breast, but the shrimp takes the top spot thanks to an extremely high protein percentage (80%!) and a very low energy density. Go shrimp. 🍤👑 For more on satiety, follow @JoinHava, and for early access to our satiety tools, sign up at hava.co. Any questions or comments on this? Leave a comment, and I'll answer many.
