Bear Safety Training at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat Today members of the #JamesBayOPP participated in a Bear Safety exercise at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat, practicing preparedness, teamwork, and public safety response for potential wildlife-related situations. Henry and Ganuk – two resident polar bears of the Habitat – remind us that maintaining awareness and respect around wildlife is essential. These sessions reinforce the importance of staying Bear Wise in our region. OPP officers bring diverse experience to their roles. P/C Ruitenbeek has completed specialized bear guard training in Churchill, Manitoba, and enjoys sharing his knowledge (and the occasional polar bear fact) when you see him around town. Mar. 20, 2026, #NipissingWestOPP, charged a 30-year-old person, from the #WestNipissing area for operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlocking device on Front St. West Nipissing. The #OPP is reminding drivers that operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, including failing to comply with an ignition interlock condition, is a serious criminal offence. An ignition interlock device is installed to prevent a vehicle from starting if the driver has been consuming alcohol. Drivers who are required to use this device must ensure they fully comply with all conditions of their prohibition. Failure to do so can result in additional criminal charges, further driving prohibitions, and possible jail time. The OPP remains committed to keeping Ontario roads safe. Two Stunt Driving Charges Laid Within One Hour in North Bay On March 22, #NorthBayOPP stopped two fast moving vehicles within an hour: 6pm: A 32-year-old driver from Fargo, North Dakota (USA) was paced at over 150 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on Highway 17 westbound toward North Bay. The vehicle was later located at a gas station on Highway 17 East. 7pm (pictured): A 26-year-old driver from Scarborough was stopped after a Lidar reading measured the vehicle at 166 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 11 northbound toward North Bay. Both drivers were charged with stunt driving, issued a 30-day licence suspension, and their vehicle were impounded for 7 days. Excessive speed puts everyone at risk. #SlowDown. ^kb

#ManitoulinOPP have charged a driver with stunt driving following an incident near #JamesStreet and #CentreStreet in #Espanola. On March 4, 2026, officers responded to an incident after a caller reported that another vehicle brake checked them, then stopped in the roadway, exited their vehicle, and began yelling at them while a child was present in the caller’s vehicle. Police located the involved vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. As a result, a 34-year-old from Espanola was charged with stunt driving, issued a 30 day licence suspension, and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The individual is scheduled to appear in court on March 26, 2026.^bp ---------- #ManitoulinOPP ont porté des accusations de conduite dangereuse (cascade) contre un conducteur à la suite d’un incident survenu près des rues James et Centre à Espanola. Le conducteur est ensuite sorti de son véhicule et s’est mis à crier en direction du plaignant, alors qu’un enfant se trouvait également dans le véhicule de celui ci. Les policiers ont localisé le véhicule impliqué et ont effectué un contrôle routier. À la suite de l’enquête, un résident de 34 ans d’Espanola a été accusé de conduite de véhicule automobile – cascade, a reçu une suspension de permis de 30 jours et son véhicule a été mis en fourrière pour 14 jours. SNOWMOBILE PATROLS IN HEARST The #JamesBayOPP in Hearst completed snowmobile patrols on yesterday, focusing on impaired riding, valid trail permits, and unsafe behaviour on the trails. The OPP will continue these patrols through the rest of the snowmobile season to help keep our trails safe. Mar. 21, 2025, #OPP #SudburyTIME, stopped a vehicle for #StuntDriving on #Hwy64, #FrenchRiver. The vehicle was traveling 108 Kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 60 km/h zone, in an unfit commercial vehicle. The 20 y/o driver from #Sudbury, was charged with, #StuntDriving, operate unsafe vehicle and fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle. The driver received a 30-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14-days. #SlowDown, #DriveSafe. ^rl - 21 mars 2025, #OPP #SudburyTIME ont intercepté un véhicule pour manœuvre périlleuse sur la #Hwy64, à #FrenchRiver. ARREST MADE IN DOMESTIC ASSAULT & HOUSE FIRE On Friday March 20, #NorthBayOPP, District of Nipissing Paramedic Services, and the Phelps Volunteer Fire Department responded to a domestic assault in progress on North River Road in Phelps Township. Shortly after the initial 911 call, the residence was reported to be on fire. The victim was able to get out safely. When officers arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. The accused surrendered to police after exiting an outbuilding on the property. The accused has been charged with: • Arson – Disregard for human life • Arson – Damage to property • Assault – Spousal (2 counts) • Mischief – Destroys or damages property The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today in North Bay.
