Baleba was the first midfielder heavily linked under Amorim before he was sacked. We hesitated over the asking price and walked away. Since Carrick took over, it’s been one name after another: Anderson, Matheus Fernandes, Tonali, Alex Scott, Wharton, Tchouaméni, Ederson (failed medical)… and now we’re back to Baleba after missing out on all of them. As a Manchester United fan, this is exhausting. Every summer we identify the right players, spend weeks negotiating, hesitate over the fee, watch deals collapse, then circle back to our original targets while our rivals get stronger. We all know this squad needs at least one or two top-quality midfielders.
