Every year, some #Turks try to claim Kurdish Festival Newroz as their own even though they don’t celebrate it. This year, they even released a desperate song asserting ownership of Newroz, and people rallied behind it like a staged crowd. It reflects a deep cultural insecurity.

@LennoxGina There’s no issue only a fake, made up narrative by one side. There’s one historic and widely respected and accepted flag and that is the Kurdistan flag a.k.a. Ala Rengin. Only those who are brainwashed and worship ideological idols create “alternatives” from communist symbols.

Why this flag issue? There is only one #flag that has been used in all four regions of #Kurdistan. The Republic of Ararat (1927 to 1931) & the Republic of Mahabad (1946) used a version of this one flag, as well as Basur always & Rojava traditionally - before party specific flags.

Interestingly, a similar flag dispute appears to be emerging in the Iranian Kurdish arena as well as it has been among Syrian Kurds. For example, when the new Iranian Kurdish coalition was announced, no Kurdistan flag was displayed because of a dispute over which flag should represent Iranian Kurds. For instance, among Syrian Kurds, pro-PKK currents reject the idea that the flag of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region should be treated as the national flag of all Kurds. By contrast, pro-KDP currents such as the Syrian Kurdish National Council argue that the Kurdish flag used in Iraqi Kurdistan is the national Kurdish flag. A similar divide now seems to be visible in relation to Iran. In the PKK view, these are regional flags tied to the different parts of Kurdistan. In Iran’s case, pro-PKK groups instead adopt the flag used by Qazi Muhammad’s 1946 Mahabad Republic, also known as the Kurdistan Republic, as the flag of Iranian Kurdistan.
