GOVERNOR MUTFWANG, FG SIGN MoU TO REVAMP ICONIC TOURISM SITES IN PLATEAU; RENEW COMMITMENT TO ADDRESSING SECURITY CHALLENGES
The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Plateau State Government to aggressively revamp the tourism sector through the remodeling of iconic sites and the rehabilitation of neglected tourism infrastructure across the state.
The Honourable Minister, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, signed the MoU on behalf of the Federal Government, while His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, signed on behalf of the Plateau State Government at the Plateau Governor's Lodge, Abuja.
Both leaders affirmed that Plateau State is richly endowed with vast tourism potential which, if properly harnessed, can position Nigeria prominently on the global tourism map and generate significant revenue for sustainable development.
The Minister commended the people of Plateau State for their resilience, hospitality, and determination to change the narrative through the leadership of Governor Mutfwang. She noted that tourism discourse in Nigeria remains incomplete without reference to Plateau State, widely known as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
“Tourism is critically important because when you develop within a tourism landscape, you create opportunities to absorb a large number of people into meaningful employment. As people become engaged, they develop a sense of ownership of the destination. That sense of ownership encourages them to protect and preserve it. In this way, tourism can also play a significant role in addressing insecurity by helping to mitigate its root causes,” the Minister stated.
She further emphasized: “When you talk about tourism in Nigeria, that conversation cannot and will never be complete without Plateau State. Many of us grew up recognizing the state for its immense tourism potential. Wherever you go around the world, when people speak about the beauty of Nigeria, they speak about the Plateau; it is truly the Plateau of the world.”
In his response, Governor Mutfwang reiterated that Plateau State is abundantly blessed with unique tourism assets which, when strategically developed in partnership with the Federal Government, will attract international visitors and establish the state as a premier tourism destination in Nigeria.
He highlighted the state’s distinctive tourism sites and vibrant cultural festivals, which have gained national and international recognition. The Governor noted that the introduction of the Plateau Unity Christmas Carol and Praise Festival has further enhanced the state’s tourism appeal, adding that the 2024 edition attracted two former Presidents. Efforts are underway to elevate the 2026 edition to an international event.
Governor Mutfwang described the persistent security challenges in parts of the state as unfortunate but assured that his administration is implementing decisive and proactive measures to curb criminal activities and safeguard lives and property.
“We have hosted conferences where visitors experienced a vibrant nightlife, contrary to negative perceptions. These are indicators of improving safety. We are strengthening security further by deploying technology to detect and respond to crime more swiftly, positioning Plateau State for greater global engagement.
“Looking ahead to 2027, one of our key aspirations is to launch a ‘Welcome to Plateau’ project targeted at the diaspora community. We are exploring the development of a diaspora city, leveraging our available land, favorable climate, and investment potential,” the Governor stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to confronting all challenges that may hinder development and called on citizens to remain resilient, supportive, and united in the collective effort to reposition Plateau State as a pride of the nation.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF LEARNING MATERIALS, COMMISSIONS SUBEB OFFICE BLOCK IN JOS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO IMPROVING STANDARD OF EDUCATION IN PLATEAU
Pupils in Jos, the Plateau State capital, were filled with excitement as the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, flagged off the distribution of teaching and learning materials aimed at strengthening education and promoting academic excellence across the state.
Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing public education in Plateau State, declaring that his government is determined to restore confidence in public schools and significantly improve learning outcomes.
The Governor made the pledge on March 9, 2026, during the official flag-off ceremony for the distribution of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) to the 17 Local Government Areas at the headquarters of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dogon Dutse, Jos. The event also featured the commissioning and inspection of a newly constructed administrative office block, as well as the decoration of pupils who brought honour to Plateau State at the National Basic Education School Sports (BESS) Competition held in Bauchi.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Mutfwang recalled that the education sector in the state faced significant challenges when his administration assumed office in 2023. He, however, emphasized that deliberate reforms and sustained investments are already changing the narrative.
“We made up our minds from the onset that we must get public education right. If public education is not right, we cannot claim that education is right,” the Governor stated.
He expressed optimism that ongoing reforms in infrastructure development, teacher welfare, training, and the provision of instructional materials would restore Plateau State’s reputation as a destination for quality education.
“I want to pledge to the people of Plateau State that, by the grace of God, by the time we exit office, public schools will become schools of first choice for parents,” he added.
Governor Mutfwang also decorated pupils who distinguished themselves in national and international sporting competitions, describing their achievements as a source of pride and inspiration for Plateau State. He urged education managers to nurture the talents of young learners through structured sports development programmes.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Plateau SUBEB, Mr. Sunday Amuna, disclosed that the Board inherited numerous challenges upon assumption of office in July 2023, including industrial disputes arising from unpaid salary arrears, inadequate office accommodation, broken-down operational vehicles, and deteriorating school infrastructure.
He noted that the progress recorded so far was made possible through the support of the Plateau State Government and the successful access to Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) counterpart funding.
“Through your visionary leadership and deliberate policy direction, the narrative has changed remarkably,” Amuna said.
He explained that the Board has so far constructed 397 classrooms, renovated 557 classrooms, drilled 33 motorized boreholes, and supplied furniture for thousands of pupils across schools in the state.
Amuna further revealed that the newly commissioned administrative block, which houses 19 offices and eight toilets, was completed using the Board’s overhead allocations and is fully powered by solar energy.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kachollom Gang, described the commissioning of the office block, the decoration of outstanding pupils, and the distribution of learning materials as a significant milestone in strengthening the education sector in Plateau State.
She noted that the provision of teaching and learning materials underscores the government’s commitment to improving the quality of instruction in schools.

“The presentation of teaching and learning materials underscores the government’s dedication to improving the quality of instruction in our schools. These resources will enable teachers to deliver lessons more effectively while stimulating students’ interest in learning,” she said.
Representing the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba, the North Central Zonal Director, Elder Edward Abalaka, commended the Plateau State Government for prioritizing basic education and consistently paying the required counterpart funds to access federal interventions.
He stressed the importance of the proper utilization of the materials, noting that the fight against illiteracy can only be effectively won through access to knowledge supported by relevant teaching and learning resources.
The event featured the distribution of 143,931 textbooks, 6,675 school bags, 6,675 pairs of school sandals, pencils, and exercise books to strengthen teaching and learning across public primary schools in Plateau State.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG, APC NATIONAL CHAIRMAN PROF. NENTAWE YILWATDA, MINISTER OF HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS DR. BERNARD DORO FLAG OFF FG FOOD AND NUTRITION SUPPORT FOR VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS IN PLATEAU
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday put smiles on the faces of vulnerable households across Plateau State as the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, in collaboration with the Plateau State Government, flagged off the distribution of food and nutrition assistance aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship and rising food insecurity.
The intervention, which was officially launched at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, brought together beneficiaries from the 17 local government areas of the state and is designed to provide relief and support in addressing poverty and vulnerability.
Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang; the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe; and the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, were present to flag off the distribution exercise.
The event marked a historic humanitarian engagement at Government House following the recent political realignment in the state.
Governor Mutfwang commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians, noting that the intervention demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting citizens while they await the long-term benefits of ongoing economic reforms.
“Many of the economic reforms introduced by Mr. President are well-intentioned and, by the grace of God, they will yield the desired fruits. But in the meantime, Mr. President recognizes the need to ensure that while people are waiting for the bigger results, they do not go hungry,” the Governor stated.
He likened the intervention to a temporary measure designed to provide relief while broader economic reforms aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians begin to take full effect.
“All mothers know that when they are cooking food and the children become hungry before the meal is ready, they look for something for the children to chew first before the main food is served,” he explained. “That is exactly what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done through this intervention.”
Governor Mutfwang further emphasized that the Plateau State Government is pursuing long-term strategies to strengthen food security and empower farmers across the state to become economically self-reliant.
“Beyond these interventions, we must help our people learn how to fish and not just give them fish to eat. That is why this season we are procuring an unprecedented number of trucks of fertilizer which will be provided at subsidized rates to farmers across all local government areas,” he said.
The Governor also encouraged the people of Plateau State to work together with government, the APC National Chairman, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to move the state forward.
Speaking at the event, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, expressed satisfaction that the programme he initiated during his tenure as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction is being successfully implemented.
Today, I am one of the most fulfilled persons because this project was my baby. I secured the funding for it as a special intervention programme approved by Mr. President to support vulnerable and malnourished communities, he said.
He commended the current Minister for sustaining the programme as originally designed, noting that it will go a long way in addressing malnutrition, providing relief to vulnerable households, and giving Nigerians hope while awaiting the full benefits of President Tinubu’s economic reforms.
The person who succeeded me ensured that the programme was implemented exactly as it was designed. Nothing was reversed, Goshwe added.
