Nandutu had, in journalism, risen to where many didn’t expect her to get to. She beat many odds; woman, single mother of more children than many people of our generation can afford to have, not Ivy League, good accent material (newsrooms esp TVs obsess about that). But she cut her niche and became very good at it. She became our president as the parliamentary reporters (UPPA) and she was the first one to take that position as seriously (and benefit from it) as @KwikirizaNova did the UOX presidency. She had gone back to school, was educating her children in decent schools, she was generally doing so well for herself. When the opportunity to become MP, and later Minister came, I am sure she saw that as the natural progression of her rising star. It has turned out a catastrophe for her.
