I still have my mom’s number saved on my phone. This evening, my phone started ringing, and when I looked, it said “Mom” was calling. I froze and threw my phone off , I was so scared I couldn’t even pick up. After the call ended, I grabbed my phone, almost wondering if I was imagining things. Then I saw a message from my older sister saying, “It’s me 😂.” Don’t panic , I nearly had a heart attack. But after a few minutes, a part of me wished it really had been my mom calling. I miss her so much. It hurts that she left us so soon. 😭💔

I remember when I was in 200 level Computer Science student at LAUTECH in 2008. I was staying in the Adenike area, a popular student area in Ogbomoso, Nigeria. My dad, who was in the UK, sent me a beautiful laptop. Back then, not many people had laptops, maybe 5 to 10 students in a class of about 500. The day I brought the laptop from Osogbo to Ogbomoso, robbers attacked our hostel. My classmates upstairs had already hidden their laptops and were trying to call me, but I didn’t pick up. I was inside, struggling with the robbers, trying to hold on to my laptop. At one point, one of them said, “Shoot him and waste his life.” The one holding the gun replied, “He might be useful later, leave him.” But he hit me in the face with the gun so I would let go, blood gushing out, but thank God for God. It was a terrible experience. It affected me deeply, even academically. That was the only semester I graduated with a 2:2 GPA. I truly believe I could have finished with a first class. The rest of my semesters were almost perfect. Today, I am grateful to God for life. First, it’s a miracle I survived that day. Second, I now own five laptops personally. And beyond that, I have given out more than 20 laptops from my own pocket. I’m also part of the 10K Laptop Initiative, and so far, we’ve helped distribute 53 laptops. So I’m grateful for the miracle of being alive Life has a way of coming full circle.
