These are great priorities 👍 We need: ✅ more speaking skills in the curriculum ✅ better support for the 1 million children with Developmental Langauage Disorder ✅ a range of programmes for children with speech and language challenges caused by poverty

Children who are persistently absent from school will often struggle with speech and language challenges. The next government must prioritise support for the 1 in 5 children struggling to talk and understand words if they want to tackle this issue effectively. #LabourManifesto

We hope any party announcing new childcare places will also give central funds to run early language programmes in nurseries rather than waiting until reception. Children shouldn’t have to wait to have the best chance to learn to talk and understand words bit.ly/4egEr8B

All parties aiming to improve opportunities for children must prioritise tools and training for teachers and nurseries to identify and support speech and language challenges. Without support, these children are more at risk of offending in the future, but we can change this.
