Two women get married. One becomes the “husband” The other becomes the “wife” Now pause. If you reject the man-woman structure, but then recreate it inside the relationship, what exactly changed? One dresses masculine, leads, protects, proposes, plays the dominant role. The other becomes softer, receptive, “the wife,” the one being led. So the structure is still there. Just different actors. You removed the man… then assigned someone to play him. You removed the woman… then assigned someone to perform her role. That’s the contradiction. If gender roles don’t matter, why recreate them? If masculinity and femininity are irrelevant, why split into them? If equality is the goal, why rebuild opposite poles? You can’t say “there’s no man and woman here” while running the relationship on man-and-woman dynamics. Either the structure was the problem… or it wasn’t. But you can’t reject it and reproduce it at the same time.

I saw this video as soon as Rinu posted it and my initial reaction was to criticise these Nigerians who are selling their future for as little as 2,000 Naira. But I needed to quickly step out to buy fuel, and the first thing I noticed was how hot the sun is. It occurred to me that I have not had any reason to open my curtains or step outside since morning. Not having to hustle during the weekend after going to work the whole week is a privilege that many Nigerians do not have. In the 15 to 20 minutes that it took me to get fuel and return to my house, I saw no fewer than 5 women and children hawking different items like pepper, frozen fish, and cold drinks in the hot sun. While I complained about the sun, they had no alternative but to be in it if they must survive. It again occurred to me that I can afford to buy at least 10,000 Naira worth of fuel at a go while these hawkers struggle to make 1,000 Naira a day in profit, and if someone offered them 2,000 just to sing the praises of politicians, they would gladly do so. I got home and put my generator on, and as I sit now typing this tweet, it has again occurred to me that those hawkers that I saw definitely do not have generators at home, and will suffer from the same heat that I can afford to prevent. Although I knew that I was more privileged than some Nigerians, juxtaposing my lifestyle side by side with those of the hawkers made me realise how privileged I am. My point is that it is easy to judge these people from our privileged vantage points, but we must recognise that many Nigerians are victims of a system which is working efficiently to keep them poor and unproductive so that they can sell their future for as little as 2,000 Naira. Conclusively, we should be more favourable in our criticism of them.

I would ideally avoid this tribal post, but there’s just something I noticed and would like to share… I’ve observed that once an Igbo man or woman marries a non-Igbo person, the child naturally tilts to the Igbo side. The same applies with Hausa, hardly will you see a mixed Hausa child not tilt to their Hausa side. Why? Because they are dominant in nature; they like to influence and even overshadow people. Now imagine when they are your spouse, but you see mixed Yoruba kids, they will most likely tilt to their non-Yoruba side because we are subservient people. We are not dominant at all; we believe in humility. Even kids born to Yoruba mothers often tilt to their non-Yoruba side. This is something that nature is showing you. I’m not saying don’t marry a non-Yoruba person, but irrespective of who you marry, make sure your child is well in tune with your culture and language. Make sure you influence them. Stop being overly influenced by your spouse, especially the men, so you don’t give birth to a lost generation. Don’t make the mistakes of your fathers. A word is enough for the wise. I rest my case.⬇️⬇️

I do not normally interfere in stuff like this, but this is a classical example of ignorant engagement bait. Is it because of X payouts? If you want to be ungrateful, I will gladly remind you. Lest you forget, one of the requirements for getting paid is setting up a Stripe account. If many of you do not have amnesia, this is a country where you could not even do a 5 dollar international transaction, let alone earn directly in dollars without cutting corners. The government initiated the reforms that eased our financial restrictions in the international system. That is why the ecosystem is open enough for you to route those Stripe payouts and get paid right on your phone today. If not for anything, you should acknowledge that. You ungrateful lot.

EndSARS started when Yahoo boys got tired of settling policemen in the SouthSouth. Even their girlfriends came out to protest. Then the protest was moved to Lagos. Yahoo boys heavily sponsored the protest. Governor Sanwo-olu came, took their request to Abuja and got their 5 for 5 request approved. Immediately he came back, they change it from EndSARS to EndBadGovt. That was when people realized the protest wasn't about SARS anymore.
