@POLLAROCK Yeah I agree. Sidechain isn’t a dealbreaker but I wouldn’t say it’s for people that don’t know how to use a compressor

🎚️ Mixing snare Snare is one of the most challenging sounds to mix right. Here are my tips to work with it. ---------- EQ tips: • Make sure your snare has just enough “body”. Boost or cut 300-600 hz depending on how your snare sounds (not enough body/too muddy). • Sometimes boosting 100 hz with Pultec works, because it affects higher frequencies when applied enough. • 2500-5000 hz is really audible and can be piercing. Cut this area if you want to make the snare louder without sounding painful. • Add a very slight boost with a high shelf if your want your snare to be more present without being piercing. --------------- Compression tips: • Use a bit slower attack if you want to add slap. • Use fast attack if you want to control your snare because it slaps too hard. • Use saturation to make your snare richer and cut through the mix better. • Use room reverb 100-500ms to make it sound bigger (very subtly). • Consider to use transient shaper if you need to adjust its punch. Sometimes reducing the transient and turning up the snare can get you a fatter, richer sounding snare. --------------- My favorite snare mixing trick that I posted many times but I'll do it again: Many times I found out that snare starts to hurt only when I add vocals. Without vocals it sounds nice. To avoid that, I add multiband compression on my All Vocals Bus, and sidechain 1500-4000 hz from snare with fastest compression. No audible changes to vocals but snare stops hurting your ear when sounds together with vocals. @natemixing
