Have the new season jump way forward in time where she’s used to her new face and doesn’t question it. Let expanded media do the post-regen story they acknowledge her having the same face as Rose. Don’t put that in the show.

I’ve thought about this myself. Ultimately, I think Billie being the face of the new era is ultimately a backwards-thinking stunt cast, but if a new writer truly has the restraint to never reference Rose and let Billie just do her own thing. I wouldn’t be totally be against.

You know what'd be kinda ballsy as fuck? A semi-soft-reboot for Doctor Who under a brand new creative team that doesn't really reference the past... But they actually cast Billie Piper as their Doctor, totally divorced from the Rose stuff. She's genuinely a great actor.

@VeritaserumukT I like the idea of longer episodes as so many episodes end up feeling horribly rushed, but Doctor Who needs variety. 3 episodes doesn’t give us enough breadth. I know 12 episodes may not be financial reality anymore, but 7-10 60-ish minute long episodes would be great.

If #DoctorWho ever does return, I can easily see it being transformed into a #Sherlock style 3x90 minute Special event-series. They'll air in November close to the Anniversary, with a Christmas Special a month later.
Each special will be like a movie. Audios can fill the gaps.

@WilliamWho27 DW thrives off of variety. Chris wouldn’t have done full serialization if the series hadn’t been reduced to 6 episodes. As for falling behind the times, shows nowadays have fallen into either the camp of fully serialized or fully anthology, and I’d rather Who tend to the latter.

My biggest surprise with Russell was him not deciding to keep the format of Serialisation that Flux bought to the show.
I don’t know if the reception of Flux put them off but it’s a shame they didn’t keep it as Chris said at the time Doctor Who was falling behind the times.

Every showrunner up until now has cultivated a public persona of being witty, friendly, silly, fun-loving kid at heart, with the occasional bit of tongue-in-cheek snark, and I think the next showrunner should just openly be a grumpy asshole in interviews to mix things up a bit.

I really never expected Modern Doctor Who to last a shorter amount of time than Classic Doctor Who. It just wasn’t even in the realm of possibility for me.

I don’t really know if getting even older white guys to run the show is what Doctor Who really needs, but JMS running the show is far more interesting to me than Pete McTighe or any of the other regular writers of the show taking over.

@eveofthedaleks I think RTD was pretty confident/arrogant/naïve about being able to get a third series made in some way shape or form in the near future, so it made sense to properly write Ncuti out rather than do a “walk into the sunset” ending.

In hindsight what was the point of Ncuti even regenerating? Why not just keep the ending as it was?

@PaulIrvine82015 I feel like he had early sketches of ideas, and the BBC rejected those before he wrote a whole script. It seems weird to me that if he did in fact write a script which got rejected that he would then go on social media and lie to make himself look lazy.

The fact that Russell never wrote a script and has been acting all lackadaisical regarding the show’s production all year further proves my theory that he only wanted to do the 60th specials and only took over as full time showrunner because no one else would.

@PaulAndroid4 Can't we just let RTD go rather than bringing him back for a CiN skit. As he'll treat is a joke at first but then instantly claim it's canon to just troll all the fans. We don't need all his rebound abuse getting out into our small world.

At this point, I say just slap together a minisode to just haphazardly wrap up the dangling threads. Have it be camp and unserious like this Wilderness era’s Dimensions in Time. Just a little thing for the fans to look to for when the eventual new era ignores all of this.

@BernardJKD Well, this is assuming she’d be willing to shoot a brief Comic Relief/CIN type short. I mean, she does Big Finish. It’s not like she never sets time aside for supplemental Who stuff.

Honestly, there’s so many episodes over the past several years that just plain did not feel like professional finished television that it’s surprising that “Oops, no special after all” hasn’t happened before.

@BernardJKD And again, that’s not quite my main point. I’m just saying that Doctor Who as the BBC’s biggest IP is seen as more valuable to them now than it would’ve been in the 90s.

@BernardJKD Doctor Who definitely has a sizable following in the US in the 80s due to PBS airings, but I don’t think it was ever like the Matt Smith era where there were billboards in Time Square. It’s like if Doctor Who was in the same conversations as Star Wars and Star Trek in the 80s.

In all fairness, there’s no way this haitus lasts as long as the last one because Doctor Who, despite the drop in popularity, is still the BBC’s biggest IP that’s near the status of anything in Hollywood. It’s not just the cult TV show it was by 1989. It was a global hit once.

@BernardJKD On top of that, we’re also in the era of IP milking, which I don’t love obviously, but that’s also a reason I can’t see the BBC not prioritizing the show.

@BernardJKD It was a global cult hit, but Doctor Who, especially around the Matt Smith era was omnipresent in global culture on a level that classic Who never quite hit. It sold out Hall H at Comic-Con a couple years in a row. That’s nearly Marvel level.

There’s gonna be a sizable gap in time for sure while they find a creative team, production partner, and funding source, and I welcome that because it needs a break, but there’s no way the BBC have any interest in letting it sit indefinitely.

Not only has Russell confirmed his departure, it has also been confirmed that no script was written for the Christmas special and no one was cast. Incredibly disappointing but again, I'd rather something meaningful than something forced just to bridge a gap
