Kobe was so much more than an athlete, he was a family man. That was what we had most in common. I would hug his children like they were my own and he would embrace my kids like they were his. His baby girl Gigi was born on the same day as my youngest daughter Me’Arah.

This week we took our Fire Safety Education Camp to Monkiewicz Playground (Port Richmond), Penrose Rec Center (North Philly) and Dorsey Playground (Tacony). Because fire is everyone's fight.

Today, we salute K9 Kane, badge #K588, who peacefully passed away this morning after a battle with cancer. Kane had served our city since 2012, and will be greatly missed by all of his two and four-legged friends. Rest in peace, partner - and thank you for your service!
