3.5⭐️ So yeah… I don’t know what the fudge it was but golly gee I couldn’t get past Grace’s internal monologue. Saved by the plot and character relationships, though. #projecthailmary #bookreview #bookish

@PreacherReads Finished this audiobook recently and agree with a lot said here. Loved his descriptions and the way he captured such a bleak apocalyptic world. Other times I was bored 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hate the ending

@PreacherReads I misread that at first as "heartwarming" instead of wrenching and thought "McCarthy?? Really??" Love the measuring at the end, although I'll say McCarthys prose may be the hardest prose to judge in the world. Super unique but kinda "hate it or love it"

While I’m having an overall positive experience with Project Hail Mary (the book) I think I’m slowly being driven insane by the lack of conversation around just how cheesy and poorly written the inner monologue of the MC is… I can’t be the only one right?

@PreacherReads Yeah, I didn't connect well with Grace's inner monologue style all the time, aka the author's writing style. I believe Gosling portrayed it much better and more genuinely in the movie. It's a good book that I enjoyed and finished, but I'm also not certain that I'm a Weir guy 🤣

@Donwalsh14 Bro what? lol The “cheesy” is the inner dialogue in the book. It is goofy, constant, and sometimes off-putting (like the section where he muses about if he’s a pdf-file). Thanks for assuming my intentions in reading books, as well.

Just saw the movie last night. Of course it wasn’t anywhere near as good as the book. Hard to bring inner dialogue to the screen. The “cheesy” you speak of is probably due to the audience needing technical explanations and no way to build those into multi character discourse. Until you mentioned it i never really noticed. Which means we read books with a Different mindset. One critical and one fit entertainment

@PreacherReads I can see that but after reading Artemis which I hated I was kind of relieved with the cheesiness of PHM over the very immature and unlikable MC from Artemis but that’s just my take 🤷🏻‍♂️

@TXMCtrades @PreacherReads Similar vibes, but Ryland from PHM is geekier than Mark from The Martian. Haven't seen the movie yet but I've heard Gosling's acting helps with the character.
