When I took a Japanese class in community college, when we learned how to count and tell time, or anything involving numbers, we were taught NOT to use “shi” (し) when saying the number 4, because it literally means “death”. Instead we used “yon” (よん) when saying the number 4.

Also, fun fact: The number 4 is considered unlucky in Japanese culture, since one word for four (shi) literally means “death”. So Hinako’s birthday being on April 4 could be considered REALLY unlucky. 😭
