Sweden has 3.4% unemployment among native-born Swedes. 12-16% among foreign-born. @elisabethtr calls this a government failure. The data calls it something else. ETR published a reply in DI today arguing that Sweden’s unemployment crisis proves the current government is failing entrepreneurs and the economy. She makes some legitimate points. 9 out of 10 foreign entrepreneurs denied residency is real. Salary floors hurting startups is real. These deserve attention. But her central claim doesn’t hold up. Sweden’s headline unemployment of around 9% is driven almost entirely by unemployment among foreign-born residents. Native Swedes are at 3.4%. That gap didn’t appear in the last four years. It’s the accumulated result of 20 years of failed integration, the direct consequence of policies Centerpartiet championed and defended. Then she invokes trust. She says you can’t build a society that suspects itself, because it destroys innovation. But trust didn’t erode because someone pointed at the problem. Trust eroded because communities were left to deal with rising crime, parallel societies and failed integration while politics spent two decades calling anyone who raised it an extremist. You cannot invoke trust as your core value while having been a primary architect of the policies that destroyed it. Inner security is not separate from entrepreneurship. It is the foundation of it. No serious investor, no international talent, no founder building for the long term does so in an environment without order and safety. ETR understands business. She does not seem to understand this connection.
